Burmese Kittens for Sale - Cat Breed Information

INTRODUCTION
According to legend, the Burmese cat is a descendant of the shorthair cat which was worshiped in the Burmese temples. This is backed up by the depiction in a poem from Thai literature of a group of four cats. The poem can be dated back to at least the early 17th century. Two of the animals are clearly a Burmese and a Siamese cat, which also proves that both breeds, which are closely linked, had different body structures as early as several hundred years ago. The Burmese cat of today is thought to have originated in 1920 in the USA from cross-breeding between a Siamese tom and a cat imported from Burma. However, as early as the 19th century, Englishmen brought back yellow-eyed Burmese cats in addition to blue-eyed Siamese cats, but did not breed from them. Since then, the Burmese has developed into an attractive breed with a wide colour spectrum. It is now predominately bred in Australia, New Zealand and the USA. The Burmese likes to live in large groups. In particular, the whole family will snuggle up together to go to sleep.

APPEARANCE
The body structure of this medium-sized cat should not resemble either the Siamese cat or the British or European Shorthair. It is compact and the body feels muscular and hard and is heavier than it looks. The head, which is slightly rounded at the top, has medium-sized ears which are slightly curved at the tip and large, widely set eyes, which are golden green to amber in colour. The very short coat lies flat against the body as it has hardly any undercoat. The hair is fine, shiny and has a satin-like texture. The Burmese differs from all other cats with colour points, in that the underneath of the body is always lighter than the back and the legs.
