INTRODUCTION
In the Oriental Shorthair, cat lovers have fulfilled their long held wish to breed an elegant, sleek cat based on the Siamese but in one uniform colour. The forefathers of the breed were a single colour British Shorthair and American Shorthair, whose consequent cross-breeding soon generated the desired single colour. The breed was recognised in Great Britain in 1970 and on the continent by the FIFe in 1972. The one exception is the Havanna cat, which already exists under a different name. The Oriental Shorthair needs a lot of space to climb and play.

APPEARANCE
The cat is elegant, sleek and medium-sized. It is long, thin and gracious thanks to its good muscle structure. The shoulders should not be wider than the hips. The medium-sized head is in good proportion to the body; it is balanced, wedge-shaped and has straight lines and a slightly convex skull. The ears are large and pointed, while the eyes are medium-sized, almond shaped and slope down slightly towards the nose. They should be bright green. The fine, shining, silky coat is very short and lies close to the body. The colour of the Oriental's coat is subject to very strict assessment criteria. Solids must be the same uniform colour throughout, while there should be a stark contrast between the base and accent colours on tabbies. In the silver-tipped variety, there should be a significant difference between the light underlying coat and the dark tips.

CHARACTERISTICS
Intelligent, curious, somewhat calmer than Siamese cats. They love to roam and are very sociable and intuitive.
