Tonkinese Kittens for Sale - Cat Breed Information

INTRODUCTION
Although the Tonkinese has been recognised as an independent breed since 1978, even today it has been known for Siamese or Burmese-looking offspring to appear in a Tonkinese litter. This obviously fuels the critics' argument that the Tonkinese is not a breed in its own right. However, the fact of the matter is that the Tonkinese, which was created from a cross-breed of Siamese and Burmese in the USA and Canada, rightly has its own place in the cat world.

APPEARANCE
Medium-sized, medium-length cat, which is muscular but not too compact and appears to be somewhat stocky. Toms should be much stronger and larger than females. The head is quite long with high cheekbones and a blunt muzzle. The medium-sized ears are wide at the base and oval at the tip, and are set quite wide apart on the top of the head. The open, almond-shaped eyes are a typical feature of the Tonkinese. They are slanted and are aqua blue in colour. The hind legs are somewhat longer than the forelegs, while paws should be fine, oval and not too large. The tail is medium-long, tapering to a point and is in good proportion to the body. The short coat lies close to the body, is fine, soft and silky and should shine. It is important that the colour points on the legs, tail, ears and face (and on the testicles as well in toms) form a clear, but not glaring, contrast with the rest of the coat.
