INTRODUCTION
In the second half of the 20th century, the Turkish Agora came to Western Europe via the USA. Up until then, it was only known and loved in its Turkish homeland as a domestic cat. It is a widely held misconception that the name Turkish Angora comes from the length of the coat – it fact it has its origins in the hometown of the breed, Ankara. Untouched by the influence of breeders for many years, the breed has retained its natural characteristics.

APPEARANCE
Medium-sized cat with a lithe and slim body and fine bone structure, making a generally graceful and lithe impression. The wedge-shaped head is well proportioned relative to the body, and has ears that are long, pointed and broad at the base with a good covering of fur and are tufted. The large, almond-shaped eyes are set slightly at an angle, and all colours are possible. The legs are long, and the hind legs should be longer than the front. The small round and dainty paws should have tufts of fur between the toes. The long, fur-covered tail runs to a point and should reach at least to the shoulder. The coat is of medium length, longer at the neck (ruff), on the chest and on the hind legs (appearing to be breeches). It has a fine silky texture, gleams even when moving and has no undercoat.
