For casual fishkeepers, mixed breed fish can be excellent and characterful aquarium inhabitants, offering unique appearances and interesting behaviour at competitive prices. As with all aquarium fish, their care requirements depend on the parent species involved, so researching the likely traits of both parent breeds — water chemistry preferences, diet, tank size, and compatibility with other fish — is important before purchase.
