Description
Federico is an adorable Spanish hound who was unwanted by his hunter owner and left in a pound 6 years ago. Since then a group of us have tried unsuccessfully to find him a home and he is now in foster in the UK but is one of very many dogs and as a dog who adores human company, he is not doing very well there. He is now 9 years old and would so love a home of his own with his very own humans to care for him and to give lots of love to. He is the closest you'll get to a real life Scooby Doo. He's a huge character, has you in stitches and can be really goofy. He loves people and is incredibly good company, the kind of dog who comes with you to help you with the chores and work in the garden. He's a really lovely friend. The challenge we have is that Federico can be reactive when he's scared, he can bark and lunge and that scares people. He's had 4 attempted homes and he's always been returned because of this. Each time it happened shortly after arriving in a new home when something spooked him and since the adopters weren't experienced with reactive behaviour they didn't know how to manage him. Experienced foster carers have managed him fine and not had a problem with this behaviour which isn't seen once he's settled in. He just needs an experienced adopter who knows how to read him and to help him not to feel scared. We can also provide a behaviourist to support his adoption if necessary. He would love to live with a female dog. He gets on well with most dogs but can be a bit grumbly with some males. We have recently taken him to the vet's since his eyes were cloudy and heartbreakingly we've found out that he's not got much vision and a blood test showed his kidneys are compromised. He needs further tests and then will be started on medication. He will also need a diet suitable for renal issues. We will cover the costs of his ongoing treatment for life. He has a slight wrist deformity (a birth defect) but it doesn't stop him from running around and leading a normal life but does mean he can't go on very very long walks. Nothing needs to be done other than to give him joint supplements. If you have experience with reactive dogs and a heart of gold and would consider taking him on please drop us a line. This poor boy so deserves a home after all these years of waiting. We guarantee you he would shower you with love and gratitude if you took him on. His adoption fee is a contribution towards the costs of rescuing him.
