Description
Bella is a 9 year old Golden Retriever. She needs a home with a garden for her to play in. She can live on her own or with another dog. She can live with older children, but we don't know about cats.
Bella is an absolute sweetheart! She loves people and other dogs, and is just a big cuddle monster. We think she'd probably make an excellent therapy dog.
Sadly, she is a little bit overweight and unfit. However, she has slowly been losing it since being in her foster home for a month. They are working hard to support her by watching what she eats and gradually increasing her exercise. She is looking much better and is gaining in confidence every day.
Bella tends to be submissive, and does not enjoy being accidentally bashed as she thinks she's done something wrong. It's for this reason that we feel it would be better for any children in the home to be older, so they don't mistakenly spook her.
That said, we think she would love living in a family with children who were old enough to play with her! Equally, she could live with a person or couple who were older, yet still reasonably active. Whoever become her people, we hope that they'll teach her the joy of playing and enjoying life again.
Bella's recall has improved, but she'll forget all her training if there are distractions (if there are other dogs or people around the selective deafness kicks in!). Her fosterer is also teaching her to 'wait' before she eats her food, and she is doing very well with this. Bella is an intelligent girl who would love to learn more tricks.
Healthwise, Bella really needs to continue her weight loss and fitness plan. Her weight may always need to be watched. She's also recently had a UTI (now resolved) and is a little bit incontinent. However, she is on a special Urinary diet, and is about to go on some medication to support with her incontinence. Amicii Dog Rescue will continue to fund the cost of any medication needed for this condition.
Bella loves lounging around on the grass on a clear day, and will spend all day in the garden if the weather is nice. This is why she really must have a garden!
She has been left alone, but she would benefit from some positive training around this as she has barked when left. She'd certainly prefer human company.
Her fosterers love Bella, but they already have another gorgeous Goldie and cannot commit to having two in the long term. However, they know that her new people will be so lucky to have her in their lives.
