DescriptionFelix fostered Wymondham Norfolk
Felix is a two years old medium sized crossbreed. We believe there’s some border collie and whippet in his gene’s: he’s attentive, fast and will round up the whole family for you. He rarely barks but will whimper when he doesn’t get his way!
We met Felix back in March 2023 when we visited the Botosani public shelter in Romania. He was in a sorry state, skeletal, filthy and terrified. He’d recently been split from his brothers who had badly attacked him.
By the time Felix travelled to us a few weeks later he’d gained weight as he’d no longer been fed amongst bullying siblings that didn’t allow him to eat. He was still terrified of the prospect of human touch and spent his first days here studiously avoiding us.
Thankfully Felix has an inherent nosy, meddlesome, zany personality and his curiosity in us bustling little humans soon got the better of him. He began watching at a distance but gradually got closer and closer until he was fully embroiled in all the goings on.
Felix is now a cheeky, comical and fun loving boy who is ready to look for his new home. Felix is an affectionate and loving dog. He warms up quickly to people, especially if they give him a chin scratch, which is rare for a dog with this poor start in life. He really is such a fun and entertaining boy and his bravery to trust humans deserves the reward of an amazing home.
Felix has a unique curly tail and will reserve his wag to welcome you home. He loves his walks and runs but can equally be a couch potato.
He really will be a fun and loving addition to any family. He is a very loyal dog, and enjoys the company of his family, and will happily follow them around all day.
Felix is not cat tested and is unlikely to be ok with small furries. He is happily living with children aged eight plus. Can happily live as an only dog but could do well with other confident dogs.
When you adopt a Safe Rescue dog, you MUST use a slip lead. This will keep your dog safe: your new dog will be nervous and will not trust you, and you will not know which situations might upset your dog. If your dog panics, then a slip lead is the only way to prevent your dog from escaping (many dogs can escape from a collar and/or harness). It will take AT LEAST 3-6 months for your dog to settle-in and for you to know your dog fully (longer for nervous dogs). The slip lead must ALWAYS be used during this settling-in period.
Even after your dog is settled, it is safest to use the slip lead in situations where your dog may become scared (e.g. visiting new places, around unfamiliar people, at the vet), and it situations where unexpected triggers might happen (e.g. around bonfire night). Nervous dogs may always need to wear a slip-lead as a back-up safety measure.
The slip lead is a safety device and must NEVER be used as a training tool. Using the lead to apply pressure to the dog’s neck is damaging. If your dog pulls on the lead, then we can advise you on training methods that avoid harm.
Once your dog is settled, you may want to consider using a harness (together with the slip lead) if your dog is comfortable with being handled when it is fitted. Most harnesses are not escape-proof, but harnesses with a strap behind the ribcage (e.g. Ruffwear Webmaster or Perfect Fit Harnesses) are safer.
Retractable / extendable leads must never be used on our dogs.
Adopted dogs must be collected from the rescue and transported straight home in a crate.
