I have a few “happy accidents” looking for good homes and hens of their own because I’m too soft to put them in the pot.
Many people think cockerels are just noisy annoying ****s… and they’re half right, but so are hens 😂 (actually think my hens are louder)…
so if you’re looking to get some hens (or already have some) why not add variety to the squawkestra in your garden?
Cockerels are full of personality and add another level of entertainment to the chickeny antics in your flock.
Benefits- A good cockerel will:
-help your shy hens come out of their shell (great for teaching ex batts how to be chickens)
-maintain law and order (in the flock- but if you need a guard cockerel I know just the fellow for the job)
- literally lay his life on the line for his girls if there is a predator
-make sure everyone gets to bed safe at night ( theoretically… this statement doesn’t apply to silkies)
- alert everyone to the presence of food (real or imaginary)
- generally be fabulous and important (or think he is anyway)
Or if you’re not bothered about eggs and you’d like a to rehome the whole gang, they’ve lived together as a bachelor group all their lives and get on great.
I can only guess what mix of breeds they are exactly, but here’s my best shot:
-2 which are 90% legs (and 100% attitude) with a tuft on their head. Likely modern game x silkie
-2x rumpless - blue egg laying hybrid x Wyandotte I think
- 1x Definitely Wyandotte x thuringian (he’s lovely too)
- Wyandotte x ???
Can include 1 hen per cockerel if wanted.
