DescriptionI bought Toby on 10/04/2024 after seeing him advertised on Preloved. I was worried for his welfare & well-being & knew at this time I may not be able to manage to keep him. I already have a Toy Poodle puppy, who is six months old and an absolute live wire. Toby is not. I only have the information, which was extremely limited, from the man I bought Toby from. Toby has been vet checked, and besides having only one testicle, my vet gave him a clean bill of health; at this point, he would not vaccinate Toby as he was already microchipped, and we didn't know if he was stolen or, as of now. I researched Toby's chip, thinking I could reunite him with his original owner; however, Toby, although chipped, was never registered to anybody! He is now registered to me with MyPet defra base.
Toby has very obviously been horrendously abused and needs a loving, patient, kind, experienced & calm owner. I am of the opinion he needs to be an only dog so time can be dedicated to training him fully (I still can't get him to do the most basic commands such as sit). He is afraid of people and other dogs; he has come to rely on me very heavily for everything & wants to sit on my lap constantly 7 be the centre of my attention. He tolerates my girl, Tilly, although he didn't at all in the beginning. He used to both pee & poo in my house, he now knows to go outside in my garden to poo, but unfortunately, he is still marking in my home; I thought this would be temporary due to a new setting. He does pee outside, but if I don't watch him 24/7, I will find marking spots of urine on dog beds, toys, crates and the corners of furniture. Toby is reactive to my five-year-old Grandson (when he is running towards me or Toby - he will bark and growl). This scares my Grandson, who can be pretty rough with Tilly, my girl who never reacts and wants to play constantly. Toby does not seem interested in play at all. He is happiest; he just curled up on my lap. We were having a breakthrough with him enjoying walking - I have a mobility scooter as I am disabled, and he walks brilliantly at the side or in front of this and surprisingly is not anxious about it. He was beginning to enjoy being out and about sniffing, scenting and marking, but unfortunately, my girl Tilly got her lead tangled in my scooter last Wednesday and now has a broken leg; this is making it even more challenging to devote spare time to Toby and meet his needs. Truthfully financially, I am struggling too, as I have had to part with a lot of money to treat Tilly, who needed a specialist orthopaedic surgeon to put plates and pins in her leg. Toby still needs neutering and vaccinating; I saved up for everything before Tilly's leg broke. The vet advised me that Toby is at increased risk of developing cancer if he is not neutered. I previously paid for a comprehensive DNA test for Toby Embark's DNA as I was not convinced he was a Toy Poodle, but it turns out he is. I have the full report for the right individual to give Toby the best possible home, which shows all the conditions for which he has been screened. Toby really could blossom with the right owner. He has so much love and potential, but he should not be taken on lightly, nor should any dog. Price is negotiable to the right person and home. It sounds brutal as finding Toby the best home is the most crucial factor, but unfortunately, I need to recoup some funds in case my insurance company does not pay out for the £7000 Swift Referal fee. I am trying to be honest and transparent to anyone interested in taking Toby in and giving him his forever home and sofa. Please do not hesitate to ask questions if you genuinely think you are the right person for this boy.
