Description

Maddy is a medium sized female puppy with long length fur. She was found on the streets on Romania in October 25 and was in our public shelter until moving to her foster home in February 26. Maddy was described as quiet and shy whilst in her kennel but she warmed up when out of the kennel and loved making new friends. She is microchipped, vaccinated and neutered. She has had some muscle wastage on her leg which is likely due to the kennel environment and it causes her no problems but should be monitored. Behavioural Disclosure Statement General Temperament The dog is friendly, social, and affectionate. She may initially present as slightly tentative with unfamiliar visitors but settles quickly. With familiar people, she can be excitable. She has shown no signs of aggression. Aggression History No history of biting or growling towards people or other animals No known resource guarding behaviours (food, toys, or space) Handling and Equipment The dog is comfortable wearing a collar, harness, and lead and accepts handling without issue. Behaviour on Walks The dog is currently in training for lead manners. She tends to pull and is highly scent-driven, often stopping frequently to sniff, which limits forward movement. She may display stubborn behaviour, such as planting her feet and refusing to move. She is easily distracted by environmental stimuli and currently shows low food motivation outdoors, which can make training more challenging. Engagement with the handler is improving with ongoing work. She has shown mild sensitivity to busy roads and has not yet been fully exposed to high-traffic environments. Social Behaviour With People Friendly and appropriate with adults Very good with children; has lived with children aged 5–10 Suitable for homes with children aged 5+ With Dogs Lives well with another dog and enjoys play May take items from other dogs during play Slightly nervous but appropriate when meeting unfamiliar dogs Not reactive to dogs barking from houses Could live with another dog but does not require one With Cats Has been exposed to cats Displays a chase instinct but doesn't try to harm them. She met cats in Romania and was okay. She could live with dog savvy cats with sensible introductions. Training and House Training The dog is not fully toilet trained. She toilets outside when taken out but does not currently signal the need to go out. As a result, management through routine is required. She may have occasional indoor accidents and will use puppy pads when available. Distraction outdoors can delay toileting. The dog is not crate trained. Home Behaviour Non-destructive in the home Settles well once relaxed No reported behavioural issues within the home environment Separation and Independence The dog can be left alone: Up to 4–5 hours when with another dog, with no issues Approximately 1 hour alone without distress She may whine for 10–15 minutes after being left but settles independently. Night Routine The dog sleeps in an open-plan living area. She follows a consistent routine of a final toilet break and a treat before bedtime. She generally settles well overnight after a short period of vocalisation. Travel The dog’s behaviour in a car has not yet been assessed. Maddys foster says 'I always say Maddy is like a miniature Husky - in looks and personality - just without the energy levels! She is generally quite chilled and doesn’t need huge amounts of exercise at all, although still has lots of puppy energy and loves playtime. Her favourite thing is discovering new smells outside and also being combed or brushed. She is fairly independent and doesn’t need a person with her all the time - often taking herself off to her bed for her own downtime. She is very happy and loves life but does have a more nervous or wary approach with new things in life. It took a good two weeks for her to settle into life with us in her foster home without being wary. She has a small limp on her back leg which we have been told is muscle wastage (by PPTF). I think this needs keeping an eye on as it may well be a bigger issue. Her fur down her side was shaved down a lot when we got her and a lot of this has still not grown back in - so she has a bald patch. Ultimately she is a happy ball of fur who is excited to discover the world on her own time'.
