Description

Freya is a 3 year old Large Female weighing around 30KG. She is neutered, Vaccinated and Microchipped. She has no known health issues however did have a burst blood vessel when she first arrived in the UK. Freya was rescued in Tecuci Romania in September 2024, she then moved to Our Safe Haven kennels in Cheshire. They said the following: Freya is very energetic, loves people but has growled and barked at a few men. She gets very happy to see the staff and is constantly on the move. She is extremely food motivated. She found kennels exceptionally stressful and was highly reactive to other dogs in this environment. Freya then moved to her new foster home in December and after less than 24 hours her foster surrendered her due to her mental health declining since her arrival. Freya moved to an emergency foster in mid January and settled very well. They said the following: Freya is nervous at first, however with good utilisation of the safe space and treats, she does settle and will be very friendly. She is a very loving dog who thrives on human affection and attention. Freya can be nervous around men which can cause her to be reactive towards them and bark and growl initially. Any males in her household will need to be calm and patient and willing to slowly build a relationship with Freya. Once settled she is the bestest girl. Freya did live with a male teenager who she had recently gained lots of confidence with and could eventually comfortably share a room with him with no issues and loves when he throws her treats. Freya is exceptionally food driven which makes training easy however she does display some food guarding issues. Freya has unfortunately bitten on one occasion when her foster dropped some food and then put her leg in the way to stop her and this caused a small wound although did not need any medical attention. Freya loves food, toys and lots of love and affection with cuddles and belly rubs. Freya accepts a collar, harness and lead. She can pull at the start of the walk but then walks nicely. She can be nervous around men and other dogs while on walks however she will mainly ignore them as long as they don't approach her suddenly. She responds well to vocal prompts and treats. Freya can be a little unsettled at the start of the night however after a short amount of time she will settle and sleep well throughout the night. She is fully toilet trained and sleeps throughout the night with white noise on. Freya was then adopted in May 2025 and she lived there happily for 2 months. Unfortunately her family had to make the decision to surrender her as Freya's owner had recently had her male partner move into the home which had been extremely unsettling for Freya. This caused a decline in her behaviour causing her to guard her space and her owner and become reactive and stressed with visitors she had previously never had an issue with. This stress also caused her to become reactive towards her owner on occasions. Freya was then moved to Emergency Boarding Kennels. The kennels have said ‘Freya doesn’t like people walking past her kennel, she will growl and bark at everyone. She is quite nervous of people but once she gains trust she is very happy and loves cuddles. She is very treat oriented which is good but she does try and snatch the treats. She’s great with lead and collar and walks well no problem at all. She's fine on walks and walking past people but she starts barking at dogs and is unsure.’ Freya can be nervous of people coming into the home which will cause her to bark and growl, she is best meeting people out on a walk first so she can become comfortable with them. She is then generally okay within the home however she can sometimes bark if visitors make sudden movements which startle her so will need to use her safe space longer term. She is not crate trained so would prefer a dog bed. Freya cannot live with children. She is also unable to live with dogs, cats or small furries. Freya is toilet trained and travels well in the car. It is felt Freya could do very short periods on her own but this would need to be built up very slowly in her new home. Therefore, she will need someone that is home all day. Freya needs a female primary carer, ideally in a female only home or with a confident, very dedicated male who can slowly build a relationship with her. Using a safe space long term so that she feels safe, builds confidence and has somewhere she can go if she feels overwhelmed before trigger stacking is absolutely vital for Freya. Her new home will need to be committed and dedicated to allowing her to go at her own pace in order to settle and become comfortable in her new home. Once she has built up a bond based on trust she will show how loving and affectionate she really is. Freya has since moved back to the OSH kennels, she is very much the same dog as she was when she first arrived, she is very excitable and playful, she loves people when she knows them, she loves having zoomies in the paddocks and going on walks. She enjoys scentwork games, she had been able to build a bond with Will, the male kennel staff, her reactivity has gotten much better and she can go on group walks with no issues. She will wear a muzzle on walks and continues to as she is a redirect risk, she is reactive to tractors and lorries and can attempt to redirect over this. She toilets in her kennel and settles in there once she's had her walk and her food, she is currently on a diet due to her weight issues.
