π UPDATE FROM FOSTER
His foster says:
βStrike is absolutely lovely. He is incredibly loving and affectionate, especially with men, and always greets you with kisses and wants cuddles. Heβs very well mannered in the house, asks to go outside to toilet, sleeps through the night with no issues as long as he knows youβre in the house, and travels perfectly in the car.
He really is absolutely fabulous with people and so affectionate, loving and well behaved. My dad even took him to B&Q and he was absolutely fine around people. He loves giving kisses and cuddles. He really just seems like a typical sensitive Collie.β
Strike LOVES running and playing with their dogs, but his Collie instincts come strongly into play β he tries to herd them, nips during play and can be very persistent when another dog has had enough. After one of the resident dogs no longer wanted to play, tensions escalated. Keeping everybody permanently separated isn't fair or sustainable.

π Rescue Story
Strike came to us in heartbreaking circumstances. His previous family brought him to a veterinary clinic asking for him to be put to sleep after he had growled and shown his teeth towards child in the home. The vets did not believe euthanasia was justified and refused.
And so Strike's whole life changed overnight. He went from the home he had known for years to a vet clinic, then to foster care, followed by another move β an enormous amount of change for a sensitive Border Collie who thrives on predictability, purpose and structure.
πΎ More About Strike
Strike is, in so many ways, a wonderful companion. He is incredibly affectionate and particularly seems to adore men. He greets his people with kisses, loves cuddles and genuinely wants human connection. He has lovely manners indoors, asks to go into the garden when he needs the toilet and sleeps peacefully through the night.
And then there is the Collie part of Strike. He LOVES running. He LOVES interaction. He wants to play, think, follow, watch and DO something. He was bred from generations of dogs designed to work alongside humans, use their brains and control movement β and some of those instincts are very strong in him.
We would absolutely love to hear from someone who understands working/herding breeds and can give that clever brain an appropriate outlet. Long interesting walks, running, training, scent work, mental games, structured activities or perhaps even an appropriate βjobβ could make this boy incredibly happy.
There is one important incident that any future foster or adopter needs to know about.
At his previous foster placement, only days after another major move, Strike bit a visiting friend. We immediately involved a professional behaviourist, who carried out a full assessment of Strike, the circumstances and the incident. The full text assessment will be shared openly with any serious potential foster/adopter.
The behaviourist concluded that the incident followed a specific and explainable chain of events involving trigger stacking, very high arousal and apparent guarding of his person during an affectionate greeting, rather than evidence of indiscriminate aggression. Strike had experienced several stressors that day while still less than a week into a completely new home, and his arousal escalated very quickly during the interaction.
This does mean his future person should watch canine body language and give him a proper decompression period where his arrival from being moved will drop down (the first week) with minimal visitors and calm, predictable routines.
And importantly, his behaviour since then continues to show the other side of Strike very clearly β a dog who is exceptionally affectionate and sociable with people when he feels comfortable, what was proved when he was moved to hi current foster.
π‘ Ideal Home
Strike needs what we hope will finally be a stable, committed home, rather than another quick stop on his journey.
We are looking for an experienced, confident adult home with people who understand sensitive, intelligent working breeds β ideally someone familiar with Collies.
A secure private garden is essential, with plenty of opportunity for exercise, training and mental stimulation. Structure and stability are incredibly important for him.
He could potentially live with a friendly, confident and playful dog who genuinely enjoys energetic Collie-style interaction and can match his play style.
π©Ί Health Information
Strike is healthy with no known medical conditions. He is not currently neutered. At present, vets have advised against rushing neutering because of his underlying anxiety and the possibility that reducing testosterone could increase insecurity in an already sensitive dog.
