Description

Sky is a 2 year old L sized male believed to be Cane Corso. He microchipped, vaccinated and neutered. He has no known health issues. The kennels have said 'Sky is a loving boy, he's very bouncy and, boisterous. He can be strong on the lead and does pull quite a bit on when out on walks. He was good walking past cars outside. Sky has taken well to muzzle training and he's very very food oriented which is great for training. He hasn't shown any signs of aggression at all to his trusted volunteer in the kennels. He does like barking at people and dogs though (this is typical cane corso behaviour). He's a good boy and just wants love and affection. Sky would be easy to train with lots of treats as he will do anything for a treat'. In January 2026 Sky was moved to different private boarding kennels. They have said ‘Sky likes; Chappie and dry food, Kong with certain bits inside, hard toys, likes to give paw for decent treats. Dislikes; Mud (He is a diva) He is a lovely dog who likes a fuss but also his own company. Unbothered by most things, likes the little things.’ Sky does not pull when he is being walked by the staff of these kennels but he is getting exercised more regularly so this may explain the previous pulling. Sky is not destructive in his kennel but occasionally moves his bed around, he does not show any signs of separation anxiety. In March 2026 a PPTF volunteer went to the kennels to take Sky on a day trip. He was very excited when he saw the harness, lead and muzzle as he knew that he was going to go out. He playfully put the lead in his mouth but gave it back easily. He happily allowed the muzzle and harness to be put on him with enthusiasm. They walked to the car and he jumped right into the boot, although he needed a little butt lift to get him in. He laid down throughout the journey, very relaxed and only popped his head up occasionally. He was very content in the car. Unfortunately, the muzzle wasn't quite the right size so it slipped off a few times but he allowed the volunteer to put it on and off without any resistance throughout the day. For their first stop, they went to the pet shop where he picked out some treats. There were a few people in the shop including the staff and he went up to everyone to greet them with a wagging tail, he loved getting a fuss. They then went to the pub for lunch. When they walked in there was a little dog on a lead in front of them waiting to be seated with their family, Sky saw the other dog and wagged his tail. When they where then seated he initially tried to sit in the booth with the volunteer a few times but she was able to get him down and he understood he was not allowed to sit in the booth. So he laid down under the table looking around and eventually settled, enjoying his treats and watching people and dogs pass by. He always noticed the other dogs and watched them carefully but he did not react except to one large female dog who passed a little too close to their table. He stood up, tried to go towards her and barked/growled at her, the volunteer pulled him back easily and told him ‘no’ and he stopped and laid back down. After the pub, they drove to the commons to walk down the trails. They saw a few large dogs arrive at the same time, again he watched them but did not react. He walked very nicely on the lead and did not pull. When they stopped to sit and take some photos, he rested his chin on her knee requesting a fuss. After the walk they went back to the kennels and he went right in taking his treat with him into the bedroom area. He was an absolute pleasure to take out and was very well behaved. Sky cannot live with children, other dogs , cats or small furies. Sky would ideally like a home where he doesn't need to come into contact with lots of dogs on walks. He will need a committed owner who understands his past and is willing to make sure that's where it stays - in the past. He needs to be kept safe and risks can not be taken with him at any time. It should be noted that it is common for a Cane Corso to become more protective and, consequently, potentially more reactive once they have deeply bonded with their owner or family. Because the breed was developed as a guardian, their natural instinct is to watch over and protect their "people". Any home considering Sky should understand the breed and ensure it is the right breed for them. He will need to be walked on a muzzle, 5 point harness and leads at all times. Sky should never be off lead. He walks well on the lead although he can get a bit excited and grab the lead but stops when you say no so he will need someone that can give him ongoing training with this. People he’s great walking past but some dogs he doesn’t like. Sky will initially need someone around most of the time and any alone time will need to be built up gradually once he settles into his new home and to continue his training. Sky will need a very secure property and garden to ensure he is safe and is unable to escape. In his kennel he is known to jump up very high. Sky was house trained in his previous home but he has been in kennels for a while so may need to have a refresher on this in his new home. Sky has missed out on a lot of love which he will cherish once he has learned to trust you and learn you are there for him and will keep him safe.
