Description
Springadors make the ideal family dog as they are full of energy, fun and devotion to the pack. Often the first choice of working dog by game keepers they demonstrate the biddability of the Labrador and the enthusiasm of the English Springer. They prove to be easy to train and keen to please.
This is a breed that requires exercise and stimulation and will reward you with a lifetime of devotion, love and companionship. Excellent with all ages, they love children and adults alike.
Having bred pedigree Labrador Retrievers for 20 years, this is my second Springador litter (previous litter 15 years ago, some of whom are still alive and thriving). Mum - Beep, a KC reg Lab Retriever and Dad - Gara, KC reg English Springer, both come from FTCH stock and are health checked: both hips, elbows scored plus Sire with full compulsory health screening including KC ISDS Eye Scheme.
Pups will inherit the biddability of Mum and attentiveness and enthusiasm of Dad and will be ready to leave on about 10 July. Both Dam and Sire are much loved family pets with proven generations behind them in the birth homes.
As an experienced hobby breeder I closely follow the puppy plan devised in conjunction with the Kennel Club and the Dogs Trust. The foundations for good behaviour and sociability are laid down in the first 16 weeks of a dog’s life, the first 8 of which are with the breeder. This crucial time is when early desensitisation, socialisation and early training takes place. The onus is on the breeder and I pride myself on following the programme to the letter.
It is essential the bitch is nurtured at all stages of her life especially during pregnancy and whelping but also during the onerous early few weeks when she is solely responsible for pups and in this case 11 of them! She has her claws trimmed, as do the pups, to get them used to having their paws handled but also to prevent scratching mum’s delicate tummy.
Pups need to be handled by us from the get go. Early training on their backs away from the litter mates is key to ensuring they can trust human contact and learn from us, as they grow, as to what is acceptable and what is not. Early potty training starts by getting the pups used to a dry warm bed and a wet area when they can be “busy”. Before their eyes and ears are open they get the vibrations of these commands. Wobbly walking even starts before their eyes are fully open, canines are very keen to keep the homestead clean and dry.
They are raised in the home surrounded by household comings and goings, other pets and household noises. They are exposed to a variety of all manner of sounds via the crash, bang, whallop CD sound tracks; this all part of that crucial desensitisation so that nothing they come across in their new homes phases them.
Weaning onto solid food does not start until the litter are a full 3 weeks old but they undergo a comprehensive worming treatment from 2 weeks. More photos and videos will be uploaded as they grow and progress.
Pups will be crate trained, house trained and will have learnt basic commands such as recall, sit and wait. They will have been copiously handled and loved and this will need to continue in their new homes away from their litter mates when they will be ready to separate from the birth pack. If the detailed directions are followed by the new home, pup will settle into its new environment without trouble. Some of these pups will be going to homes already known to me as a number of my previous homes await a puppy from one of my litters: as an occasional breeder this can often be years!
If you wish to be considered for one of these stunning puppies or to find out more information please make contact in the first instance via WhatsApp message or phone call.
It will be important that you and I have built a rapport and understanding as I am a firm believer that the breeder of puppies is responsible for finding suitable homes for the puppies they bring into the world. Don’t be offended if I ask lots of questions, I once had a prospective puppy home say they were surprised I didn’t ask for their inside leg measurement!!
I am always keen to get prospective homes involved with the litter even just by WhatsApp group as early as possible so you feel like you already know your pup before it’s even arrived at it’s forever home.
