Description
Neo’s story is a little different from many of the dogs we help. He is a Mastin, a breed traditionally used to guard livestock. He was found abandoned in a quarry and for months, the workers cared for him as best they could, but it was never a safe or sustainable long term solution. They reached out to one the shelters we work with in Spain to ask if they could help Neo to find a home.
Neo has a wonderful temperament and a big personality to match. He can be a little cautious around men at first, but once he feels comfortable, he becomes incredibly affectionate and loyal. Compared to many of the dogs we help, Neo has a calmer nature and is more low energy. He still enjoys playtime, but he’s just as happy to relax and snooze nearby too.
At the shelter, Neo lives happily alongside dogs of all shapes and sizes and gets on beautifully with them. Mastins are known for their ability to coexist with other animals, including cats, horses, and livestock, so he could cope in a home with other pets or even a smallholding environment. Neo forms strong, lasting bonds with his people. While he is independent, he is deeply affectionate and loves to stay close to those he trusts. He is eager to please and very attentive.
Large breeds like Mastins are often overlooked due to their size, which can make finding them homes more challenging. However, they are incredible dogs and Neo is no exception. He could happily live with other dogs or be the only dog in the home and he has not been tested with cats but can be.
