Description

It is breaking my heart to be posting Rosie for adoption, but after very serious consideration we do not think we provide the best home for her anymore. She is a working breed, and I will only consider serious people who will fulfil her breed requirements. An ideal home will be someone with a very large garden/access to private space, preferably in a working home. I’ve personally had Rosie since she was 9 months, and whilst I haven’t worked her as a gundog, I have tried to fulfil her needs in other ways. She definitely would suit scent work, as she does have a history of inflammation in her back leg. This doesn’t cause any problem and has been fully checked by a vet. However, my home is no longer a best fit for her as I’m currently expecting and I will lay out we have recently had a change in behaviour which will require someone well experienced with the time to iron them out. This includes reactive behaviour to other dogs, particularly smaller dogs, and some level of resource guarding. We have managed to get on top of her resource guarding, but the main issue we have is her strong negative behaviour towards other dogs which includes a bite history. So, with a small child on the way, I cannot risk this and do not have the time available needed to solve this and continue the training post pregnancy. For this reason I will not rehome to a family with children, or a home with any other animal. Rosie does not get along with cats, and all small animals will trigger her prey drive which is breed driven. She does live with another dog who we’ve had since a puppy, and she has been known to get along with our friends dogs but this has taken time. Whilst I would prefer her to go to a home without dogs, I would consider a working home with other dogs present in the right environment. On a more positive note, she is ball driven rather than food. So her reward when outside is fetching a ball, but don’t get me wrong she loves raw natural treats at home. We’ve had her on a combination diet of dry and raw which is going well and helps maintain a good weight on her. She does extremely well for a cocker switching off at home and being left alone for a decent duration e.g., 4-5 hours at a time. I don’t believe a dog should be left any longer than this. She has historically had been crate trained and still sees this as a safe space, but more recently she now has free roam of a separate room in our house. For the more serious side, I have included a price to prevent time wasters, and to also ensure the right person has the financial stability to give her the best home. So, serious people please only message, and ideally I would like proof of the environment she would be going into as well as first introductory meet. She will not go to just anyone and I am in no rush to part ways with her. I’m only trialling this first because I do not think she will do well in a rescue/kennel situation, and my preferred rescue isn’t currently taking applications.
