💙🐶 TOMMY – FULL OF LOVE… JUST DOESN’T KNOW WHERE TO PUT HIS ENERGY 🐶💙 LOOKING FOR EXPERIENCED FOSTER OR FOSTER-TO-ADOPT ASAP 🏠 📍 Currently located: Derbyshire, SK23 IMPORTANT: For the right, committed home, we are prepared to decrease the adoption fee to minimum, provided there is a clear commitment to work with a qualified behaviourist. The behaviourist must be vetted for appropriate qualification by the rescue to ensure Tommy is set up for the best possible chance of success. 🌟 RBU, post-adoption support & 4 weeks free insurance provided upon adoption (on request) 🌟 🔄 Update A few weeks ago Tommy went for trial to what everyone hoped would be his forever home… but sadly he is now back looking again. Despite love, effort, Tommy’s behaviours have escalated rather than improved. Unfortunately some mistakes were done from the best intentions: like taking away all his toys to prevent guarding of them. So he has became destructive in the home, targeting soft furnishings. He has also shown concerning behaviour around people in the home, including nipping when overwhelmed, mostly in the evening. He grabs clothes, but accidentally can catch you. He is full of love and enthusiasm, but he doesn’t yet know how to handle his emotions and energy in the right way. When he feels overwhelmed, unsure or overstimulated, he chooses the wrong outlets — and that is where the challenges begin. According to qualified behaviourist, who visited Tommy for assessment, these behaviours are rooted in stress, insecurity and likely past trauma. The behaviourist noted classic signs of this and advised that he will require experienced handling and structured work. This situation has simply confirmed that Tommy needs a specific, experienced home — not just a typical easy going pet home. 🐾 Meet Tommy 🐶 Tommy is a 2-year-old English Springer Spaniel boy, lower-medium in size, full of energy, intelligence and emotional sensitivity. He is deeply people-focused and forms strong attachments, but he struggles when he feels overwhelmed or unsure. ✨ Highlights ✨ • SIZE: Lower-medium (Springer Spaniel type) • SPAYED/NEUTERED: Yes • CHARACTER: Affectionate • Intelligent • Sensitive • DOGS: Generally comfortable with dogs, especially with females, but due to toys/object possession, better as the only dog at home • CATS: Not tested • CHILDREN: Not suitable 💔 Background Tommy was originally bought as a puppy by an elderly couple and did not receive the structure, guidance or stimulation a young spaniel needs. Later, due to changes in their health, he spent long periods crated and under-stimulated before being surrendered. Since then, he has struggled with transitions and has not yet had the chance to properly stabilise in the right environment. 🐕 More About Tommy Tommy is a bright, clever dog with huge potential — but also a dog who becomes overwhelmed easily and then expresses it through destructive and defensive behaviours. He can be loving and affectionate with his person, seeking closeness and connection, but he also needs help to set calm, structure and confident handling. He enjoys walks, activity and engagement, and like many spaniels, he needs both physical and mental outlets to stay balanced. Without this, his stress levels increase quickly. He has shown guarding behaviours around objects, and can become confrontational when challenged. This is why working with professional; experience and understanding are essential — not punishment, but correct management and training. 🏡 Ideal Home Tommy needs experienced, adult-only home with someone confident, calm and knowledgeable in behaviour and committed to enrol professional behaviour support. He requires structure, routine, clear boundaries and ongoing behavioural work. A quieter, semi-rural environment and not busy household would suit him best, with fewer triggers and more space. This is not a first-time dog or an “easy form start” companion — but in the right hands, with the right approach, he has the potential to improve and form a strong bond. 💙 Tommy is not for everyone. But for the right person — patient, experienced and committed — he is a dog who still has a chance to change, to trust, and to find stability. 🩺 Health Information Tommy is vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. He has recently had flea and worming treatment and is registered with a vet. No underlying medical conditions reported. 💌 If you can offer forever or foster-to-adopt home, please fill out a form: https://forms.gle/vHdDRdjFzXngqzUC9
