Description
We are looking for a very special home for our gorgeous boy, Obi.
Obi is a 3.5-year-old, approximately 25kg mixed-breed rescue, originally rescued from Bosnia. We believe he is likely to be a German Shepherd mix. We have had him since he was around 9 months old and he has been a much-loved member of our family ever since.
He is an incredibly sweet, loving and affectionate dog who absolutely adores his people. He can be nervous in unfamiliar situations, but responds very well to calm reassurance and patience. Once he trusts you, he is a wonderful companion.
Obi is neutered, fully vaccinated and up to date with flea and worm treatment. He is house trained and knows sit, heel, wait and bed. He walks very well on the lead and has good recall in quiet and familiar areas. He is generally in very good health. He does occasionally suffer from sore ears, which we manage successfully with ear drops from Pets at Home, and he has never needed veterinary treatment for them.
Obi currently lives happily with our much older, very submissive dog and they get on extremely well. We feel he would be best suited to a home with a similarly calm and gentle dog. He has never lived without another dog and don't feel it would be fair to change this now.
Rehoming him is an incredibly difficult decision for us and is not because of any behavioural problem or fault with Obi. We now have a 7-month-old baby and, unfortunately, we are no longer able to give Obi the amount of exercise, attention and stimulation that he needs. Our older dog is very happy with one 40-minute walk around our local park, but this simply isn't enough for Obi. He is an active young dog who deserves a home where someone has the time and energy to give him longer walks, enrichment and plenty of attention. We are also planning to emigrate next year. Knowing how nervous Obi can be, we feel that the upheaval and changes involved would be too much for him. Rather than putting him through that, we believe it is kinder to find him the right home now where he can settle and have the stable life he deserves.
We are not looking for the quickest sale and will be very selective about who Obi goes to. We would ideally like someone who has plenty of time for exercise and mental stimulation, understands nervous or rescue dogs and is willing to be patient with him. Someone who will build his confidence and provide him with a calm, stable and loving home would be ideal. Experience with rescue dogs would be a bonus.
We would like any potential new owner to meet Obi several times before taking him, so that everyone can get to know each other and Obi can become comfortable with them. We would also want the other dog to meet Obi as part of the process to make sure they are a good match. We are happy to take our time with this and would much rather wait for the right person than rush the process.
This is genuinely heart-breaking for us. Obi is a wonderful dog and we want to find someone who will love him as much as we do and treat him as a member of the family. If you feel you could offer Obi the home and lifestyle he deserves, please message us with a little information about yourself, your home, your experience with dogs and the life you could offer him.
Genuine enquiries only, please. We will not consider anyone who is unwilling to meet Obi and take the time to build a relationship with him before rehoming. Any questions please feel free to contact me.
