Description
Benson is a handsome older gentleman looking for love. He is a charming boy who is friendly, affectionate and full of life despite his advanced years. He is a typical Staffie in all the ways that make them such a popular breed.
Benson came to us after his owner unexpectedly passed away. Sadly, the family were unable to care for him, so he is now looking for a retirement home of his own. To keep him out of kennels, he was placed in temporary foster care, where he quickly found his bed and settled in for a snooze before upgrading himself to the sofa just a few hours later.
Benson still loves getting out for walks. He is well behaved on the lead, knows where the end of it is and doesn’t try to go any further. He loves sniffing through the grass and is happy to toddle along beside his walker for miles. He enjoys rolling around in cool, shaded patches of grass and making all the classic Staffie snorts. At his age, however, he prefers to spend most of his day sleeping. Once settled, he soon starts snoring away, although one ear always remains pricked just in case you decide to go somewhere without him.
One thing discovered during foster care is that Benson struggles with being left alone. He will bark and cry if left for too long, so we feel a home with a retired person or someone who is around for much of the day would suit him perfectly. Thankfully, he is now with a foster carer who can be home with him. His current foster home also has other dogs, so it is possible that living with a canine companion may help ease his loneliness.
Benson finds great comfort in being around people. He is friendly with strangers and is more than happy to come over, rest his head in your lap and see if there is room for him on the sofa beside you. He is completely unbothered by birds and other animals, he is content to watch them go about their business. He is generally good with other dogs, although he can be a little wary of dogs larger than himself. He may occasionally give a small grumble or warning bark, but he means nothing by it and is usually happy to ignore other dogs while out on walks.
Benson is now enjoying a raw food diet, which he absolutely loves. He is highly food motivated and will happily sit for a treat. Rabbit ears and chicken feet are particular favourites. He is also not shy about letting you know when it is dinner time. In many ways, he is a typical old man: he grumbles for his supper and then promptly falls asleep in front of the TV.
Benson is a truly lovely older boy. All he really wants is a soft place to rest, plenty of company and someone to share his golden years with.
