Description
Max is a 5-year-old neutered Collie cross, 14kg, who has been with us since he was 8 weeks old (from a breeder in Middlesbrough). He's an absolute gem of a dog, clever, affectionate, and full of
energy, and it's with a heavy heart that we've made the decision to find him a home where he can be the centre of attention and live his best life as a solo dog.
Max is one of those dogs who genuinely loves people. He's deeply in tune with human emotions, the sort of dog who notices when you're having a rough day and quietly settles in next to you. He's
people-oriented, trainable, and would absolutely flourish with an active owner who wants a clever, willing partner for sport and adventure.
Why we're rehoming Max:
Max is a solitary soul. He was an only dog for the first few years of his life and was genuinely happy, relaxed, and at his best. Since other dogs joined our household, he's become noticeably anxious and unsettled, he's just not comfortable sharing his space, and it shows. He's the same loving, clever boy he's always been, but he's not thriving, and we owe it to him to find him the home he deserves: one where he's the only dog, with his people all to himself. In a quiet, single-dog home we genuinely believe he'll go back to being the relaxed, happy boy he used to be.
What Max is great at:
Very people oriented, loves human company and visitors.
Fine with strangers at home and on walks.
Great recall and lead behaviour.
A quick, enthusiastic flyball dog.
Has done agility and hoopers too, would love a sporting home to channel his energy.
Fine with other dogs out on walks, not reactive.
Very intelligent, well trained and highly trainable.
Crate and house trained, loves having his own little space.
Travels brilliantly in the car.
Fine being left alone.
No noise sensitivities (fireworks, hoover, doorbell, all fine).
Microchipped, neutered, no health issues
Currently raw fed (happy to share diet and supplier details).
Loves balls and tugging games.
What you need to know:
Alongside his anxiety around living with other dogs, Max has food and chew guarding behaviour that the new home needs to be aware of and confident managing. He will guard his food bowl and
high-value chews from both humans and other dogs. He's never seriously hurt anyone, but he will warn (stiffening, hard stare, growl, lip curl) if approached while eating or with a chew. We manage this
with clear, calm routines: fed in his crate or his own space, left undisturbed while eating, and chews given separately. He may also guard high-value toys from other dogs, but not from his humans.
The guarding has become more pronounced since the other dogs arrived, which is another reason we're confident he'll be happier and calmer as a single dog. With sensible management and the right
owner it's entirely workable.
The home we're looking for
Adult-only household (he hasn't been around children).
No other dogs in the home.
Ideally no cats either.
An active, sporting home would suit him perfectly, flyball, agility, canicross, scentwork, anything that gives his clever Collie brain a job to do.
Plenty of exercise and mental stimulation (he's a Collie, he needs purpose!).
An owner who understands resource guarding, won't try to confront or "train it out" through pressure, and is comfortable managing feeding and chew time with clear routines.
Happy to continue raw feeding or transition him if preferred.
Anywhere in the UK is fine, but we'd want to do a home visit or video call before he goes.
A genuine, lifetime commitment to him.
We're in no rush, the right person matters far more than a quick rehoming.
We'll respond to genuine, thoughtful enquiries. Thank you for reading this far, Max deserves a wonderful next chapter and we're determined to find him the right one
