Description

Fagan is a 7 year old Large male believed to be a GSD Cross. He currently weighs around 32kg. Fagan is neutered but is not up to date with his vaccinations due to the Foster relying on friends for transport. The charity will sort this once he has moved Fagan did suffer with seizures, he had suffered 3 within 48 hours but hasn’t had any within the last 1- years. Fagan had suffered with an ear infection quite recently however a visit from the vets this has cleared up well. Fagan can suffer from panic attacks which cause him to shake, he will not settle quickly and needs lots of love and reassurance to overcome this. He hasn’t however suffered with those since moving to his current foster at the beginning of October so we hope this will continue to improve. Fagan was found in Romania in May 2018 before moving to his adoption home shortly after. He was in his foster home for 7 years before his family recently had a relationship breakdown. Fagan’s owner found a new partner who moved into the home with him and her daughter, however unfortunately Fagan did not cope well with this and he nipped the child on one occasion when she was hugging her mum. His owner believes this may be due to guarding behaviours and abandonment issues from his previous female owner who left. Shortly after this his owner privately rehomed Fagan against advice from the rescue however this has unfortunately also fallen through due to Fagan guarding the female disabled owner in the home causing issues with her partner. Fagan’s previous owner has said the following: Fagan loves a fuss and a cuddle, he doesn’t like to be over stimulated. He would be ideal somewhere quiet without children. Fagan has done well with visitors in his current home however has shown some reactive behaviours towards male workmen visiting the home. He has however been visited by a male and did very well with him, accepting strokes and playing with his toys. Fagan was living with a child however he did show some discomfort which resulted in teeth being bared and the above incident. He would therefore prefer a home with only children 12+ or an adult only home. Fagan has been very good with other dogs and is very friendly. He has previously lived with another dog, and is currently living with dogs at his foster and being a nervous boy he seems to gain confidence. He has had a couple of go’s at resident dogs espeically around furniture however it is felt this is due to the home being busy with 4 dogs in a small space and slow introductions not being followed. Fagan can therefore live with Medium/larger dogs following sensible introductions. Fagan has lived with cats for a short time whilst with this current foster and has always been very gentle with animals and has never shown a prey drive, he could therefore live with cats following slow and sensible introductions. Fagan accepts a collar, harness and lead and he is very good on the lead, however he can pull and can be strong. Fagan has shown some reactive behaviours on his walks however his current owner cannot control his strength or work on his training. It’s important someone is happy to work on this with him. An active home with long walks ,or even someone who likes to jog would be good for Fagan. He does have good recall in the home however when out on walks he can become easily distracted and overstimulated which means he doesn’t always return even for treats. He will therefore need to remain on the lead at all times. Fagan is largely toilet trained, however has had some accidents through the night most recently which the foster is working on him with so please be prepared to support him through this. Fagan has never been destructive since he was a puppy, he previously could be left alone with no issues however his previous owner believes with the anxiety level he would likely display separation anxiety. However his current foster has said he can be left for up to 3 hours and he is quiet and not destructive. Obviously he will take time to settle so please be prepared to slowly build this up He sleeps downstairs overnight. He doesn’t travel well in the car and likes to be at the front of the vehicle if possible. Fagan’s previous family said Fagan is a nervous boy and jumps at a lot of noises, he will shake from nose to tail when he is frightened. He can be very nervous of men and will bark , he currently stays upstairs however I cannot walk him due to my disabilities and he won’t accept my partner. He can be protective of me and my bedroom which can cause him to guard this space. He has been toileting upstairs on the landing due to this and the fact he is too scared to go outside. He can show some jealous behaviours with other dogs. Fagans current foster family describe him to be very affectionate, still nervous & will need someone with a caring nature & patience Fagan will need a very patient and dedicated home who can build his trust and work on his anxieties. He is comfortable with females and any males in the home would need to be confident & available for meets Fagan has had a rough life and deserves to be given a chance.
