Quick Facts Age: 7 years old Breed: Mixed breed, Domestic Longhair Sex: Male Charlie-Chi is a lovely, affectionate boy who is looking for someone patient enough to help him find his confidence again. He has had a difficult few years. His current owner is struggling with illness on top of a cat phobia – meaning he’s not getting his needs met and is potentially feeling second hand anxiety. Over the last three years, his family have noticed that he has become more jumpy and much less engaged than he used to be. He was once a very playful cat, but now he may only play for a moment before losing interest. We think the stress he has experienced, and potentially an underlying source of pain, may both be contributing to this change. His litter box issues (peeing and pooping outside the litter box about 1/2 of the time) are also most likely related to either stress or pain, and both possibilities will be properly explored with veterinary care. Importantly, we don’t see his litter box issues as simply a “bad habit”. We want to understand why they are happening and give Charlie-Chi the opportunity to feel safe and comfortable again. And underneath it all, Charlie-Chi is still very much a people-loving boy. He adores attention and is wonderfully welcoming with new people, often coming straight over to be petted. He is lovely with children and has lived with them from babyhood through their teenage years. He particularly enjoys sitting beside children and being stroked, purring away happily. He actually prefers spending time with the children in their rooms to anywhere else in the house! He loves wand toys and is a big fan of catnip, especially rolling around in it. He’s also adaptable to different levels of household noise. Charlie-Chi is currently looking for either a foster home or a foster-to-adopt home while we explore the origin of his litter box issues and help him settle into a new chapter. We’re looking for someone who understands that this may take patience. Someone willing to give him time, nurture his confidence, help him feel safe and work with us as we investigate whether stress, pain or a combination of both is behind his difficulties. Charlie-Chi is waiting for his best life and we are looking for someone willing to help him find his way back to himself.
