We are looking for a new home for our beautiful boy, because after 8 months with us, he is really struggling to settle where he is ( a very busy livery yard), ideally, we’d like to see him go to a quiet or a private yard as he is quite highly strung and this yard is far too active for him, leaving him unable to ever fully relax.
He is a very smart horse, that needs a job, but we are selling him as a re-start project. We bought him as broken in and riding away last year, but he was quite lean at the time. We gave him 6 months off work to gain condition and muscle. He is now the fittest and strongest we believe he’s ever been, and he knows it! When bringing him back into ridden work, he’s bolted at the mounting block with two riders, unseating them both. For that reason, we believe he would benefit from being completely restarted, now that he is at his full size and weight potential, he would need a knowledgeable and confident rider.
He very much likes to bond with one or two people, and can be wary of strangers, but once he bonds with you he is a very silly and charismatic boy, as mouthy as a baby and he loves to sweep with the brush or pick up the poo picker. Very cheeky personality.
Despite that, he is definitely not for novices, he's a very quirky lad and is aggressive in his stable around food ( We have taught him to go back, and he will move away and pull faces while you put his feed in ) but he is always best left alone for the 15 minutes he has his feed in, as he can and will bite you over food if you let him! He will also bite and challenge you if you push him to do something he doesn’t want to do, for example right now he will only lunge on one rein, and he will pin his ears and challenge you if you try to push him. He’s a big fidget who gets impatient when tied up, so he will try to nip at you if you spend too long grooming him.
He is highly strung, as I mentioned and will box walk and head toss in the stable when stressed by something, he is much calmer and happier in the field , and though we are on individual turnout here, he is a very sociable lad. He’d possibly do well being turned out with others for a while, just to be a horse (and perhaps with a bossy mare who can teach him his place!) as he has never been in a herd before, and this perhaps might help him settle once he’s in a routine with a herd, though obviously I can’t guarantee that as he’s never been in a herd.
He has a thickened scar on his hind fetlock.
He is also afraid of vets and needles, so would need sedation for the dentist etc.
