Description
My husband and I are sadly looking to find the right forever home for Bonnie, our beautiful 4.5-year-old female English Setter. We recently welcomed a baby, and despite our best efforts, Bonnie is finding the change in household dynamics very difficult. We truly believe she would be happier, more settled, and able to thrive in a different environment where her needs can be fully met.
Bonnie is a lovely, affectionate, and intelligent dog with a fun and playful side. She is also a sensitive soul, shaped by her early experiences. She originally came from a hunting background in Spain and we rescued her in July 2023 from Sebpra. With consistent care, training, and patience, Bonnie has made huge progress. She no longer has separation anxiety, is crate trained and fully house trained, walks beautifully on the lead, has spotty recall (with a characteristically wide setter radius), and gets on well with dogs she knows. She is very bright, eager to engage, and is also trained in Canicross, making her a fantastic companion for someone who enjoys running or an active outdoor lifestyle.
Bonnie would do best in a home that can offer a large garden or access to land, daily exercise of 1.5 hours or more, and a calm, attentive household with time to build her confidence. Bonnie should have an home with adults only or older children and no other dogs or a very patient resident dog that can be kept separate for the first few weeks. Ideally, her new family would have experience with sensitive or rescue dogs and be able to provide both structure and reassurance.
Bonnie has a sensitive stomach and struggles to maintain weight, she currently has a persistent strain of Giardia so needs a home willing to work hard to eradicate this through daily cleaning, medication, and isolation from other pets. She has also benefited greatly from anxiety medication, which has helped her feel more relaxed and content
. With a newborn in the house, managing both her treatment and our baby’s needs has been challenging, and this has reinforced for us that a different home environment would be better for Bonnie in the long term. We will of course share full details openly with the right adopters.
This has been an incredibly difficult decision. Bonnie is a clever, affectionate, and fun dog, and we love her deeply. We are rehoming her only because we believe she deserves a life where her emotional and physical needs can be fully prioritised. We are committed to carefully vetting all enquiries, including conversations and meet-and-greets, to ensure Bonnie goes to the right home and that this will be her final home.
We are based in London and are willing to travel within reason for the right match and meet-and-greets. If you feel you could offer Bonnie the calm, active, and loving home she deserves, please get in touch and tell us a bit about yourself and your lifestyle.
We will be rehoming with Sebpra.
