Description

Rehoming my beautiful Dexter. Dexter is a beautiful dachshund cross (suspected to be some sort of terrier). Dexter enjoys longer walks, going on adventures and having cuddles. I believe Dexter would be suited to someone who can take him on regular walks, has older children or no children and perhaps another dog to keep him company (with correct introductions Dexter loves being with other dogs). When I got Dexter in December 2023, it was clear he was not well looked after as he was under weight and was covered in bite marks from another dog he was living with at the time and wasn’t sure on his age, after a vet visit it was determined he was around 16-18 months old, I was advised he was good with children. I introduced Dexter to my 2 children at the time and after a few weeks it was clear that he was ok around young children but would steal food out of their hands and when they were playing would try to join in. Dexter was not very good on walks and would constantly bark. After paying for training Dexter can now calmly go on walks (with the odd yaps at birds and other dogs), can ignore children when eating, he does still bark but it has drastically reduced. Dexter loves cuddling and being spoilt, he even likes to get dressed up from time to time. He’s a very energetic dog with a big personality. Now the reasoning I’m looking to rehome him… after having my third child and one of my other children being SEN I was unable to walk Dexter as much as he needed which resulted in him becoming restless in the home, whilst trying to make this work through no fault of our own we were then made homeless in August 2025, between then and now we had been staying with my parents who have a dog of their own, at first Dexter and their dog did not get along and constantly had fights over food (their dog is protective over food). I and my children have since had to leave that property and have been unable to bring Dexter with but luckily I was allowed to leave Dexter there whilst we wait for a property. Recently my mum has been advising me how she can’t do this much longer as she is walking both dogs separately and my stepdad has heart failure meaning she is caring for both dogs on her own. Due to safety concerns of the dogs fighting she keeps Dexter on the lead in the home to easily separate if needed. As there is no sign of me being in my own property any time soon the only option is to try and find him another family who can love and care for him the way deserves to be. Dexter is microchipped, is up to date with all his vaccines (except kennel cough) and has been neutered. Dexter is toilet trained but does have a little wee when excited. Any questions please message. I am heartbroken that the situation has come to this and I just want my beautiful boy to go to the best suited and most loving people he can.
