Description
We are selling 2 mature marginated tortoise. Betty, female is 14 and Bolt, male is 10.
We have had them for about 5 years and we love them but we now go away a lot so it is only fair they are looked after by a family that can be there for them more often.
The marginated tortoise is a unique looking tortoise because of its unique flared marginal scutes from which it gets its name. Bolt is very fast and smaller, Betty is twice the size and slower! They like their enclosure but also like a walk around the garden occasionally.
We have an older hutch which you can have plus a heat lamp. We also have a hybernation enclosure used just before and just after hibernation.
They are opportunistic feeders and like dark leafy greens, weeds and some grasses. They are not known to be very active grazers. You also need to feed them salad, sweetcorn, flowers, and watercress. Some vegetables too including sprouts, kale and carrotts. They can also eat fibrous fruits such as pears and apples in addition to various berries. The main idea is to feed as varied as possible. Clean fresh water in a water dish should be provided at all times. They need to be able to dip their head into a bowl of water. We also bathe them in shallow luke warm water weekly for hydration.
They hybernate from December to about February. Just before and after they hybernate we put them in tbe shed in an enclosre so they are warner.
