Description
Allow us to reintroduce Toku - a name meaning “talk” in Japanese, which suits him perfectly! You may recognise him as part of a previously shared duo with his ginger companion Hoku, but as the boys have grown and changed over time, they are now seeking separate homes where each can thrive in their own right. Toku is ready for a calm, loving home where he can finally settle as the main character he was always meant to be.
Toku’s journey hasn’t been straightforward. He was first found as a young kitten hiding in a car park, already carrying an old injury in the form of a broken tail, which healed in its own unique (and slightly crooked but harmless) way. Later, while in foster care, he developed sudden mobility issues and signs of discomfort. After thorough veterinary investigation supported by community fundraising, it was discovered that his condition is autoimmune in nature and is now very well controlled with a simple, ongoing steroid medication. This is an important part of his care routine, but it is stable, manageable, and does not stop him from living a full and happy life.
Toku did briefly move into an adoptive home earlier this year, but was sadly returned to foster care after a short period through no fault of his own. He has taken all of this in his stride and remains his usual gentle, affectionate self.
In day-to-day life, Toku is a calm, easy companion. He likes to stay close to his people, often found curled up in cosy spots, watching the world from a sunny window, or settling at the end of the bed at night. He is wonderfully low-maintenance, with his most enthusiastic moments reserved for food - when he will absolutely make sure you know he is ready to eat. While not always a lap cat, he shows affection in his own special way, including gently stretching up to be picked up and resting his paws on your shoulders when he feels safe and connected.
Toku is a soft, steady presence with a lot of love to give. After everything he has been through, he is looking for a stable, understanding home where he can simply relax, be himself, and finally be truly settled.

Please note: Every Cat Matters is an indoor-only rescue. This means all our cats should be kept in a safe, enriching indoor environment, unless they have access to a secure cat-proof garden, catio, or netted balcony.
We believe cats can live full, happy lives without free roaming outdoors. Keeping them safe indoors protects them from road accidents, injuries, contagious illnesses, and territorial fights—while also helping to preserve local wildlife. With love, enrichment, and security, indoor cats truly thrive and live their longest lives.
