Description
Varanus tristis tristis
Black headed monitor lizard
3 years old, CB UK
Suspected female but this is not confirmed
Eats well and has been brought up on a varied diet including thawed frozen day old quail, thawed frozen pinkie/fuzzy mice, egg, hoppers and dubia roaches.
Parasite tested periodically and has no history of problematic test results.
They’re used to a large (6ft) enclosure with plenty of climbing, hiding opportunities, and a large temperature gradient. They require a hot basking spot and high range thermostat to run this.
This individual is quite often to be found hidden away and only very occasionally will tong feed. They can be very entertaining to watch however when they’re having moments of high activity.
This is not a good choice of starter pet reptile and will not make a good children’s pet.
I’ve priced them low relative to what I’ve seen recently as I have just moved house and want to reduce the number of vivariums I am running.
