Description

Roger fostered Norwich Norfolk Roger is a medium sized crossbreed aged around nine to ten years old. Roger and two other dogs were taken into the Botosani public shelter several years ago. For a while they were then offered sponsorship to go into “foster”. This would have still been outside but had to be better than the stress and trauma of the shelter. For whatever reason, after a couple of years the sponsorship stopped and the three dogs were returned to Botosani where they remained ever since. During a trip to Botosani last year we were asked to find Roger among the 900 dogs and see if he could be a candidate for us to take in here in the UK. We found him to be shy but not aggressive and so he joined our list of dogs to come to us when his turn came. During our last trip Roger had begun to look pretty “weathered” and, after several losses recently where we were just too late, we decided to whisk him to the top of the list and booked him on the next available transport. Roger is now here in the UK and, I’m delighted to say, we feel a little duped about his condition. Far from being “on his last legs” as he portrayed to us not long ago he has rejuvenated 😂. He is in fact enjoying his walks, attempting to play with the other dogs in his foster home, and generally seems to be loving life! He is understandably quite independent, some would say stubborn, after living without human contact for such a long time but he’s following us around and more than happy to live amongst people. It might take a few weeks for him to appreciate human hands on affection but we’re absolutely sure he’s going to get there. Roger would like another dog in his forever home. He ignores the safe rescue cat and could live with respectful children aged twelve plus. This boy is an ultimate survivor, and if he had to play on our sympathies a little to get himself a better life than we are more than happy to have been played because this kind of dog is exactly what this rescue was set up to help. The ultimate underdog story that now just needs you to provide the happy ending. When you adopt a Safe Rescue dog, you MUST use a slip lead. This will keep your dog safe: your new dog will be nervous and will not trust you, and you will not know which situations might upset your dog. If your dog panics, then a slip lead is the only way to prevent your dog from escaping (many dogs can escape from a collar and/or harness). It will take AT LEAST 3-6 months for your dog to settle-in and for you to know your dog fully (longer for nervous dogs). The slip lead must ALWAYS be used during this settling-in period. Even after your dog is settled, it is safest to use the slip lead in situations where your dog may become scared (e.g. visiting new places, around unfamiliar people, at the vet), and it situations where unexpected triggers might happen (e.g. around bonfire night). Nervous dogs may always need to wear a slip-lead as a back-up safety measure. The slip lead is a safety device and must NEVER be used as a training tool. Using the lead to apply pressure to the dog’s neck is damaging. If your dog pulls on the lead, then we can advise you on training methods that avoid harm. Once your dog is settled, you may want to consider using a harness (together with the slip lead) if your dog is comfortable with being handled when it is fitted. Most harnesses are not escape-proof, but harnesses with a strap behind the ribcage (e.g. Ruffwear Webmaster or Perfect Fit Harnesses) are safer. Retractable / extendable leads must never be used on our dogs. Adopted dogs must be collected from the rescue and transported straight home in a crate. Fences and gates must be 5foot minimum in height and secure. If you are interested please message or call between 9am to 5pm Mon - Fri 9am to 4pm Sat on Tel ****** or Tel ****** .
