Description
It is with genuine sadness that I am having to find the right home for Bruce, due solely to my own injury and reduced mobility. This is not a decision I ever wanted to make, and anyone who meets him will see straight away how deeply loved and well cared for he is. He is a huge part of our home and family life, so my only real priority is making sure he goes to the right person with the time, space, confidence and understanding to give him the life he deserves.
Bruce was born on 2 March 2025 and came to me on 1 June 2025. He is a male giant-breed guardian type, bred from a Caucasian Shepherd father and a St Bernard/Caucasian Shepherd type mother. He is microchipped, fully vaccinated and up to date with boosters, flea and worm treated, and has had a clean bill of health from Vets4Pets, including blood tests. He currently has no known allergies.
In every important way, Bruce has been a brilliant dog to raise. He is affectionate, intelligent, playful, fast learning, and extremely well settled in the home for such a large young dog. He is great with cats, dogs, kittens, children and babies, and he genuinely enjoys people, affection and being part of everyday life. He is not a wild or chaotic dog in the house. In fact, he is generally very quiet indoors and will usually communicate by nudging or nose puffing rather than barking.
He is fully house trained, toilet trained overnight, and crate trained to a very high standard. He sleeps in his crate every night and settles in it beautifully. He will also go to his crate or bed of his own accord during the day. In an emergency, he has once had to be left crated for an extended period and behaved amazingly, staying calm, clean, and waiting until he was let straight out into the garden. He is not destructive in the house, does not chew or scratch furniture, and has never shown separation issues in the way many young dogs do.
Bruce is used to being groomed properly at home and is very good with handling. He is fine having his paws touched, nails clipped, coat trimmed and body checked over. He is also good in the shower. He is not particularly fond of the dryer, but even then he simply tolerates it and lets you get on with the job. He has been raised with calm, hands-on care and it shows.
He knows sit, down, leave, away, bed, paw, come and release, and he learns quickly. He enjoys playing fetch, loves the cold, and travels very well, including longer car journeys. He is fed twice daily on a routine he knows well, with kibble in the morning and a meat-based meal in the evening around 5pm. He is currently fed Jollyes Lifesage kibble along with raw chicken and red meat, and I currently have 4 to 5 large bags of his kibble ready to go with him. He is sensible with food, not greedy, and not prone to overeating.
As expected from his breeding, Bruce has strong natural guardian awareness. He is loving and affectionate, but he is also a serious large-breed dog who needs the right kind of home. He is usually very good with strangers provided introductions are calm. If somebody comes in over-excited and bouncing off the walls, he can get over-stimulated because he wants attention and play, but he settles well again with calm handling and direction. Because of his size, strength and guardian breeding, I would strongly prefer a home with somebody who already understands large breeds or guardian-type dogs.
Bruce is not ideally suited to flat living and would benefit from a secure garden, ideally a larger one where he has room to move, play and enjoy himself properly. He has a lovely balance of being playful, gentle and naturally watchful, and in the right home I believe he will continue to develop into an exceptional adult dog.
He will come with a full setup, including his large crate (139cm L x 94cm W x 115cm H), beds, loads of toys, loads of food, treats, dog hair vacuum groomer, hair blaster, full grooming kit, vibration-sensitive pet trimmer, nail clippers and nail grinder, long 30m/15m, various short leads, 2 car mats; 1 is a kong seat headrest to headrest one that cradles Bruce perfectly the other clips on backseat headrests and just rolls down the seat to the footwell, will also have car seat belt too for Bruce.
This is an extremely difficult decision, and I am in no rush whatsoever. I would far rather keep him longer and wait for the right home than let him go to the wrong one. Please only enquire if you genuinely understand large breeds and have the time, space and confidence to give him the best life possible.
