About Margot
Margot is sadly seeking a new home due to her energy levels not gelling that with of the senior resident dog, and the dynamic is unfortunately not working out.
Poor Margot came into the shelter after she was picked up by the dog warden without a collar or microchip. Our guess is that she’d had a home and was allowed to roam freely. She arrived in good condition with a clean, soft coat and even a little bit on the tubby side! But unfortunately, without a microchip it’s impossible to know where she came from, and roaming freely is not safe, especially when dogs are not neutered.
Margot has been in the UK for just over a week and settled in really well in a short space of time. She is full of joy, playful and inquisitive, and she loves the company of people. She travels nicely in the car, sleeps well overnight, and can be left alone for periods of time at home too. In just one week she has done so well! She is very clever and adaptable, she has already learnt her name, to ‘wait’, and has taken so many new, initially unnerving, sounds in her stride in just a matter of days.
At home Margot is confident, sassy and playful. Outdoors she is still getting her bearings and is a bit more unsure, but she walks nicely on the lead and is gaining confidence daily. She interacts well with other dogs, and of the two resident dogs in her present home it’s just the senior dog (aged 16) that she’s too much for. Her interactions with other dogs, both at home and outdoors, have been really positive. She’s also comfortable in her own company too and can keep herself occupied.
Margot is very people oriented and loves being the centre of attention. She stands on her back legs to get noticed and has impressive balance! She has also learnt to sit politely when treats are on offer, and she waits her turn. If food or treats are on the floor though, she can be a bit more possessive and in the shelter she did show some very mild food guarding towards other dogs. This can be managed by feeding separately.
Margot isn’t an overly energetic dog and she’s more than happy to head out for a walk, then sunbathe all afternoon, with intermittent zoomies and gaps for enrichment (she loves playing with an old sock, a cardboard box or a toy). She enjoys being outside, but she’s by no means a mile a minute and would be quite content with a relatively laidback lifestyle with access to a garden.
Margot would be happiest in a home where she’s the apple of someone’s eye and is smothered with love and attention. She is a very loving, loyal and devoted little thing and just wants to be someone’s baby. She may be small, but she has a big personality and a huge heart, and we know that she is going to bring so much joy into someone’s home.
