I am looking for a loving and suitable new home for my dog, Duke. This is an extremely difficult decision for our family, as Duke is a wonderful dog and we want to make sure he goes to someone who will love and care for him as much as we do. Duke has no known health issues and is insured through Tesco. We also pay for Petplan, which covers things such as his vaccinations, flea treatment and worming. Duke currently eats Royal Canin puppy food, which costs around £22 a bag from Pets at Home. He absolutely loves his food and is incredibly intelligent, so he really thrives with food-led training. He is a very clever boy and enjoys learning and being rewarded. Some of Duke’s favourite things are ice cubes, and he absolutely loves it when we freeze his Jumbone treats for him. These little things keep him entertained and are some of his favourite treats. Duke has a lovely, very submissive nature. He is a gentle boy who will happily roll onto his back and lie there waiting for tummy rubs. He really enjoys affection and being around people. The reason we have made the heartbreaking decision to rehome Duke is because my middle son, who is autistic, is finding it very difficult to cope with having Duke in the home. We have tried our best to make things work, but ultimately we have to put my son’s wellbeing first, while also making sure Duke gets the happy and settled life he deserves. This is not because Duke is a bad dog – quite the opposite. He is a lovely, intelligent and affectionate boy, and this decision has been made because of our family’s circumstances. We are looking for a genuinely loving and responsible home where Duke will be treated as part of the family and given plenty of attention, patience, training and affection. We would much rather take our time finding the right person than rush him into a home that isn’t suitable. Duke means a lot to us, so finding the right home for him is incredibly important.
