Description
Located- March, Cambridgeshire.
On the 30th of April i come across a Facebook post within my area wanting to rehome some gerbils. Looking at the state they were living in i could not leave them - so here they are in my care!
They were in a tiny cage, bedding was all soaked from wee, poo covering everything and mold growing in the corners of the cage. They were only ever fed veg and fruit - most of which was moldy in the cage with them. They was living in a small camping caravan type, a place that would be freezing in winter and boiling in summer. They were practically left to fend for themselves and just given fresh water and vegetables/fruit chucked in for them.
Joey is extremely underweight - to the point I believe any longer and he would have passed away. But he has been eating proper food now and seems to absolutely love it - he loves his dried bugs.
Chandler isn’t as bad as joey, but he is still skinny - he is also eating well.
Both Joey and chandler are super sweet and friendly, and they genuinely seek attention to say they were ignored and neglected. They are both around 1.5 years old and are from the same litter.
They have recently been set up in a L100cm, W40xm and H50cm tank - which I brought second hand for them, they currently do not have a proper made topper, they just have chicken wire bent over the top - which can be taken to make a topper with . I would love to send them along to someone else with this enclosure for an ‘adoption fee’.
I believe they would do amazing in a home where they can have interaction daily and potentially for a child-teen who understands how to handle & care for gerbil’s as they are super friendly. If I didn’t already have my Persian jirds and Syrian i would definitely keep them, but sadly I don’t really have the room and time for another enclosure forever their whole lives.
I will be keeping them for a month before I rehome them so I can make sure they put weight on and I can ensure they are fully healthy before they go to their forever home.
