Description

Penny is a 3 Year old large sized female weighing roughly around 25KG. Penny is microchipped, spayed and vaccinated. She has motion sickness when travelling which can be overcome with medication. The kennels have said ' Penny is such a sweet girl once she gains trust. She took to one of the staff straight away but with others she kept barking growling and showing her teeth. Some of the staff she really didn't like no matter how many times they tried to gain trust. She allowed the staff member she trusted to go near her food and treats with no aggression. They were also able to take treats and food from Penny with no problem at all. She is a bit of a nervous girl but she loved cuddles and to play. If her trusted staff member took her to the paddock Penny would run around with them and she loved it. She is great on the lead and doesn't pull. Penny hasn't been past any children whilst being on walks but she has been fine walking past dogs and people. . She has been great with passing cars and even a tractor went past with no reaction on a walk. She has growled at dogs in the kennels but we are unsure what she’s like with dogs near her. As long as she has slow introductions and you gain her trust, we believe this can be worked on. She really doesnt like going in cars much and had to be lifted into one to travel. Her new owners will just have to understand she needs time to get to know people. We fell in love with penny she’s so so sweet and loving' Penny's new home will need to ideally be used to herding breeds or understand the breed traits. She will need boundaries to minimise any guarding behaviour she may show and will need to be kept busy with boredom busters to chew or given jobs to do to keep her occupied. She loves puzzle toys and has been given them to keep her occupied in the kennels. Penny will need plenty of excercise but this will need to be on lead or long line until she has successfully learned recall. She suffers from motion sickness in cars and isn't particularly keen on going in cars but her sickness can be treated with medication. Penny can not live with children under 15 years old. Her new family will all need to commit to giving her plenty of time to get used to them and not to rush. She need to learn she can trust people and this can only be done in her own time. Any males in the family need to accept that she is wary of men and this trust may take a little longer to gain. Penny was toilet trained and using a crate to sleep in with the door open in her previous home (although she is not crate trained) but she may need a refresher on doing these things once she's in a new home environment. She has previously guarded food so she needs to be fed in her safe space until this behaviour has ceased. Penny could possibly live with other dog but would need meets with them first at the kennels. She has previously lived with a cat, ignores them on walks and was also very good with cats while in Romania so she could live with a dog savvy cat with slow, sensible introductions. Penny will need someone around most of the day to build up her alone time gradually and also to be able to spend quality time with her to build her trust. Penny is a lovely cuddly, playful girl who needs boundaries, patience, kindness and time. She needs to be kept busy to allow her natural behaviours to be met and to be given time to know she is safe and she can trust her new family so that she can relax and flourish. Penny also has a separate medical disclaimer and vets notes which are to be shared with any potential foster/adoptive home. Penny is now at OSH She is a lovely girl, she loves all the staff members and it doesn't take her long to get used to new people. She doesn't react to passing people on walks anymore and will ignore passing dogs. She goes on group walks with no issues and can go next to dogs in the front paddocks and will play with them through the fence. She hasn't shown any guarding behaviours here but we don't attempt to take anything off her, staff can be around her with food with no issues. Penny loves her toys especially the soft ones and likes to throw them around the kennel and play with them. She loves treats and is very food motivated, she does toilet in her kennel but isn't destructive and can have duvets and soft beds. She walks nicely but she does tend to pull quite hard when we return to the kennels. Penny isn't muzzle trained but she will need to be due to her previous nipping. She hasn't bitten or attempted to bite during her time with us. Penny needs a child and pet free home, he hasn't been introduced to any dogs here but hasn't shown any negative reactions to them.
