Description

Please meet my bestest girl Jessie. Jessie recently turned 5 years old. She’s half shih tzu half westie. She’s the most sociable, friendly girl who just adores people. She’s great with kids and after an initial bit of excitement, she is fine with cats... but will eat their poo given the chance! She loves her walks but is also very mellow around the house, often snoozing the day away. She tends to get an hour a day, which suits her nicely. She goes out with a dog walker once a week and gets on beautifully with the other dogs. She prefers those of her size and will give a wide berth to big bouncy dogs. Jessie is happy to be left home and shows no separation anxiety but will bark at dogs walking past the house and then take herself back off to sleep. I don’t tend to leave her more than 4 hours at a time, but if she’s fed, walked and emptied she could comfortably go 5 hours. She’s never chewed anything, has a bladder of steel and knows to respect your space when you are eating. She sleeps on the end of my bed or on her own dog bed in my bedroom and not a peep out of her all night. Jessie is happiest when she is around lots of people and when I take her to work with me she will disappear for hours going desk to desk getting fuss from everyone. Health wise she is neutered, vaccinated (due August from memory), flea and worming all up to date. She’s in perfect health and has not had any previous ailments. The only time she’s needed the vet is when she was younger, playing with other dogs and threw her back out. Also, she has had an infected anal gland 3 times in 5 years. I have taken her to the vet each time, but they aren’t concerned as it less than once a year and it just pops, scabs and heals. Being a cross breed her insurance is fairly reasonable. I have very high cover (£16k) and it is less than £30 a month. I have her professionally groomed every 5 weeks which costs me £35. She’s soo easy to handle that if you are handy with some clippers she could fairly easily be home groomed. Now for the reason I am writing this advert. Jessie lives in a home with just myself and 3 other dogs. When Jessie was younger she was very playful with other dogs, so I got her a companion to keep her company and they got on lovely and played all the time. I also started fostering dogs a couple years ago and have since foster failed a couple of times. As Jessie has reached maturity and the years since, she has become less and less tolerant of other dogs. She’s fine meeting them on walks and in the office, but she doesn’t like sharing her personal space, gets worked up around meal times and whenever there are high value treats around. She is good as gold with people and has no resource guarding tendencies but will regularly have a pop at one of the other dogs. Sometimes this is for an obvious reason, sometimes its a bit out of the blue. There is never any blood shed but often a tuft of fur. She also doesn’t like the other dogs playing among themselves and will tell them off for this (even though she’s not involved and in another room). I call her the fun police! She loves one on one time with me but will sulk and take herself off to another room often when the other dogs are up having a cuddle. She’s such an amazing dog and everyone who meets her falls in love with her infectious happy go lucky energy, but when she is at home she’s just bored, frustrated and fed up. I have the opposite of what she needs... lots of people and no dogs. I am hoping she has another good 10 years in her and I am worried I am being unkind keeping her in a home where she is not thriving and just not as happy as I know she can be. If a home came forward that could offer her the opportunity to be the only dog for the rest of her life and a home with minimum 2 people+, just a busy bustling home – I really think she will be very content. Kids / visiting grandchildren are a plus, but I would suggest 7+ as they can better understand that dogs do need space to rest and not to get in their face when eating etc. Her ideally family will still take her on nice rural walks and not leave her at home all day, as this is not something she is used to. You can see from her photos she loves an adventure. She would also love to be able to sleep in her new mum / dad’s bedroom. Now the only other negatives I can think to Jessie is that she does bark at animals on the TV and if you are walking in the woods she will disappear for a good few minutes at a time hunting for squirrels. I have a GPS tracker fitted to her harness in case she gets turned around and cannot find me again. Her recall generally is very good in non-squirrely areas and she always manages to catch up and find me, we just keep walking. And she cannot comprehend 'gentle' when taking treats. The girl has never missed a meal in her life but you wouldn't think it with the way she inhales food. She is scared of fireworks and thunderstorms and needs a thunder buddy to cuddle up tight to around those times. I am in no rush to wave her off anywhere, this has to be the right set up for her and better than what she has with me. If I cannot find that I will just continue to do my best for her. I would be happy to have her back here if you were to go on holiday and needed a sitter. I would like to meet any potential new fur parents and visit your home with Jessie, go for a walk, maybe do a trial weekend to make sure everything is just right for her. You are also very welcome to meet her here in my home.
