Some dogs arrive in rescue ready to slot straight into family life. Libby isn’t one of them – and that’s okay.
Libby is still learning that the world is a safe place. She’s a gentle, sensitive girl who needs patience, kindness and someone willing to let her go at her own pace. Fast movements can still worry her, and she’s not the type of dog who’ll jump straight onto your lap. Trust is something she builds slowly.
Libby loves to play so we will only consider a home with another doggy sibling. She is an active dog so would love a home that can give her lots of exercise and stimulation.
But when that trust starts to grow, it’s incredibly rewarding.
Her foster says Libby now actively seeks affection, follows her around the house and garden, and absolutely melts when she’s told she’s a good girl – her whole body wiggles with happiness. She wants to trust people; she’s just learning how.
One thing we know for certain is that Libby needs another confident, friendly dog in her forever home. Her foster brother, Spike, has been her greatest teacher and biggest comfort. She adores playing with him and happily invites other friendly dogs to join in too. When Spike has had enough, she’ll happily entertain herself, carrying treasures around the garden like a mischievous toddler.
She’s proving what an easy house guest she can be. She’s completely house trained, sleeps quietly through the night, travels calmly in the car, eats well and loves her treats. She’s walking beautifully on her training lead, has started coming back when called for rewards, and is growing in confidence every day. While she’s not ready for off-lead adventures yet, her foster has every confidence she’ll get there in time.
Libby is also wonderfully gentle around other animals. She ignores free-ranging chickens, was respectful around a cat, and greets other dogs politely. Even when faced with two very enthusiastic French Bulldogs bouncing all over her, she handled the situation beautifully.
She’s still a youngster at heart, so don’t be surprised if she tries to steal a sock from the washing basket or reminds you not to leave your favourite shoes lying around!
Libby is a work in progress, and she may continue to be for some time. She won’t be the right match for someone looking for an instant companion. But for someone who understands that the best relationships are built on trust, she’ll be worth every bit of patience.
She may not be a lap dog today… but who’s to say she won’t choose that for herself one day?

Libby went into foster in Derbyshire on the 18th May 2026.
Her Story
Libby gave birth to 3 puppies in an abandoned yard close to our foster yard. Someone alerted our volunteer who immediately came to their rescue. Her puppies have been reserved by Germany.
