Description
Pablo is 19 months old, I took him in as the owner before me no longer wanted him. He is a lovely dog with a gentle personality, but be warned he is about 50/60kg possibly more. With still going time.
He Has previously lived with cats and does not get excited when seeing them on a walk. He is strong and will pull if given the chance. But if you use treats he does listen and can be fully trained.
He has good treat commands but poor recall if he gets distracted by a motor bike, electric bike or unusual noises. He chased a dirt bike that came into the park unexpectedly late one evening and since then has not been off lead. He is not bothered by other dogs, only wants to say hello but many owners avoid him due to his size. Which is a shame as he’s never shown aggression towards another dog, even when another dog has shown aggression towards him. I used to muzzle him as he was new to me but after another dog tried to bite him and he wasn’t able to defend himself, I changed to a harness without the muzzle. Although he backed away the entire time. He needs plenty of toys and loves a cuddle ( lots and lots ). He barks when the door knocks but otherwise is chilled.
He likes kibble and a bit of raw, and likes fresh water regularly. He is house trained and in the small time I have had Pablo he is never been to the toilet in my house.
He has a large crate that will come with him, it has carpet on the bottom which can easily be cleaned. he will take himself to whenever he wants space and a nap.
He can get excited and jump up, in a friendly way, but due to his size it can become a problem, so I will crate him when guests first come and after 10/15 minutes let him out. He is good around children but I always have him on a lead as he wants to run around and play with them and could potentially bump a child in excitement.
With the right owner who has the time and skills to train a large dog he is a blessing. He is loyal and protective but never in an aggressive way. He has never shown signs of food guarding and will sit and wait till he told to eat. He’s a gentle giant! He doesn’t like water for some reason but with the right care he might become used to being bathed. I don’t have enough time to give him the love and attention he needs unfortunately.
