Sometimes life changes in a single second.
Bela is around four years old, a lower-medium sized girl who, for more than three years, was a deeply loved and cherished family dog. She grew up in a busy home with children, travelled on countless adventures, lived happily alongside another dog, and was everything her family could have wished for in a companion. Calm, loyal, affectionate and deeply bonded, she knew exactly how to live as part of a family.
And yet… she cannot go home.
While on summer holiday, Bela was resting quietly in her own space when a young child of close family suddenly poked her in the eye. Startled by sudden pain, she reacted instinctively. The injury was not heavy, but police became involved by hospital staff. Despite clear acknowledgement that this was not malicious behaviour, Bela was removed and placed in police kennels. Her family fought relentlessly for her. A relative even stepped in to remove her from kennels while appeals continued.

All this time family was fighting for her to be allowed to return to her family, where she belonged. She was taken from police kennels and kept by close family all this time. The final decision has now been made. Bela is not allowed to return to her family because they have children. She must go to an adult-only home.
Her family are heartbroken. This is not abandonment. This is not choice. This is a ruling that has taken everything familiar away from her.
Her family say that Bela has been the most amazing, loyal dog they could ever have wished for. She lived beautifully with their children for years, travelled everywhere with them, and brought nothing but joy. They describe this as a single, tragic moment that changed everything, and say she deserves a chance to live a full and happy life.
Bela is a calm, emotionally connected dog who thrives on companionship and routine. She is fully house trained, comfortable with structure, relaxed in the home and confident in everyday life. She travels well, settles easily, walks beautifully and enjoys the quiet presence of her people. She has lived successfully with another dog and values companionship, both human and canine.
What Bela needs now is an adult-only home where she can finally exhale. A calm, understanding environment with people who see her for who she truly is, not one moment of pain and confusion. She can live with another friendly dog and would likely benefit from canine company, but above all she needs human loyalty.
Bela has already paid an enormous price. She has lost her home, her children, her routines and her sense of safety, all through a single moment she did not understand. Please do not let her lose her future as well.
