Description
Reyna is a beautiful Border Collie in foster in Cambridgeshire, her passport says she is 9 years old, although her vet believes she may actually be younger. Reyna came into the shelter with her three puppies, Ares, Sena and Zeus, after being surrendered by a family who had kept her outdoors for her entire life. We believe she may have spent much of that time chained up, with very little opportunity to interact with people, other dogs or the world around her. Her puppies are all in wonderful homes now, and although Reyna is going from strength to strength, we would love to find her a home of her own.
When Reyna first arrived at the shelter, she was extremely frightened and overwhelmed by everything around her. Reyna was at the shelter for a few months before one of our wonderful foster homes offered to foster her in June 2025 and Reyna has been there since. She shares her home with several resident dogs and, despite likely having very limited socialisation in her previous life, she has learned so much from them. She had many fears and insecurities and found it difficult to trust people. Since then, she has made wonderful progress and now enjoys gentle attention and affection from those she knows. However, she is still a sensitive girl who will need a patient, understanding home where she can continue to build her confidence at her own pace. Once she feels safe and familiar with someone, she is incredibly sweet, affectionate and eager to be close to them.
Although she was very nervous when she first arrived in foster care, Reyna has slowly but surely started to come out of her shell. With the support of her foster family and input from a behaviourist, she has even enjoyed some small adventures, including trips to a local café. While she can still be shy around new people, she is gentle and affectionate once she feels comfortable. Her foster mum is undoubtedly her favourite person, especially as she’s the one who takes her on all her walks!
As her confidence grows, Reyna’s personality is beginning to shine through. She has a playful, cheeky side and can be quite the little character. Watching her discover new experiences and learn that the world can be a safe and enjoyable place has been incredibly rewarding. She gets along with all of the resident dogs, although the other resident Collie is a particular favourite and the two have formed a lovely bond.
Reyna is an extremely special girl looking for a kind, patient and understanding family who can continue the fantastic work started by her foster home. With time, reassurance and gentle encouragement, we believe she will continue to flourish and be an incredible loving member of the family to someone. Reyna currently lives with a cat, so can do again providing they both have their own space and adopters taken introductions slowly. She would do best in a home without young children. She can live with other dogs or as an only dog.
