Who Is Finn?
Finn is quietly brilliant and deeply loyal — the kind of dog who learns your routines quickly. He has spent the past four years as a beloved family member in a calm, rural home, where he's thrived.
He's a classic "velcro dog": he loves to be near his people, whether that means coming along on a long walk through the fields, playing in the garden, or simply settling next to you or at your feet while you watch TV, read a good book, or relax.
He's not a dog who demands the spotlight, he just wants to be included and loves to be stroked and petted.
An Important Note Before We Go Further
Finn has recently been neutered but may not be keen on young intact males. His owner is working with a professional trainer to build his confidence and his good behaviour and traits. Finn will have a report from the trainer to go along to his new home.
Finn isn’t a dog with problems, but will continue to benefit from a new home where his owners are happy to continue working with him to develop a strong relationship built on trust and respect. Finn is a big character eager to love, learn and play. He's a dog who deserves the right environment and a consistent hand.
A Natural Learner
Finn’s breed means he is incredibly intelligent and has a real love of play and training — not just because of the treats (though cheese helps), but because he genuinely enjoys the connection it creates. He has a strong command repertoire:
• Basics: Sit, Stay, Down, Lay down, Come (strong recall)
• Fun tricks: Paw / Other Paw, High Five, Through (between legs), Touch, Bow, Kiss
• Manners: Wait/Sit before meals with a yes command to eat, Leave, Drop and Away for retrieving those tempting but unwanted stolen items, high-value treats or unwanted interactions.
He would thrive with an active owner who sees training as a relationship, not a chore.
An Active Soul
Finn loves being outdoors and currently enjoys two walks a day, with at least an hour of off-lead time in fields or woodland. He's an enthusiastic sniffer and a keen scent hunt player (garden treasure hunts are a firm favourite). He also loves a good game of tug or fetch.
One thing he has firmly decided: water is for drinking, not swimming. He'll march cheerfully through rain and snow, but don't expect him to join you in the river.
Finn's Ideal Home
Finn is a sensitive dog who does best in calm, structured surroundings. He is looking for:
• A pet-free, adult-only home, or one with older, dog-savvy children
• A rural or semi-rural setting with a secure garden where he can explore safely
• An owner who is calm, confident and consistent — someone whose energy he can settle into
• Patience with strangers: Finn is shy at first and prefers to approach new people on his own terms, so pushy introductions don't go well
• Treat-based handling: he's food-motivated and gentle when taking treats, but prefers to be left in peace with his meals and high-value chews
A note on vets: Finn finds veterinary visits stressful and needs a muzzle as a precaution, along with a patient team — sometimes a light sedation is needed to keep him calm. His new owner will need to be comfortable advocating for low-stress handling.
Health & Day-to-Day
• Diet: Thriving on raw food (currently Bella & Duke)
• Grooming: Professional groom every 8 weeks; patient in the bath at home. Keep an eye on his paws and coat for grass seeds and burrs.
• Home alone: Finn is comfortable being left for up to 4.5 hours. He doesn't bark or chew — he simply naps until you're back.
Why Is Finn Looking for a New Home?
His owner is heartbroken to be rehoming him. A significant change in family circumstances means a move to a city environment that simply wouldn't suit Finn's lifestyle or temperament. This is a loved dog being rehomed with great care — and his owner is committed to finding exactly the right match, not just the first one. All potential new owners and homes will be vetted to ensure a good fit.
Could You Be Finn's Person?
Once Finn trusts you, he gives you everything. He'll follow you from room to room, greet you at the door every single time, and be your shadow on every walk. He doesn't need a busy social life — he needs a calm, confident owner he can rely on.
