Description
Zena is a large/extra large sized girl who is around 5 years of age She was rescued from the streets of Romania and taken into the care of Pawprints in 2022. Zena spent almost 4 years in our public shelter in Curtea De Arges before making her way to a UK Foster home in December 2025.
Zena is vaccinated, microchipped and spayed She has a docked tail which causes her no issues whatsoever and no known health issues
Zena spent a large portion of her life in a shelter environment before travelling to her Foster home in December She was understandably nervous and overwhelmed when she first arrived with her Foster family who gave her the time and patience she needed to adjust to her new life
She has been making steady progress and her Foster Mum says she is “a fabulous dog in the making She requires a confident, sensible and patient owner who is accepting of her history and will give her time to settle and keep her safe”
Zena currently lives in a rural environment with her carers and six resident dogs, visitors to the household are rare so Zena hasn’t had much experience of meeting new people Her anticipated reaction is that she would be very nervous and utilisation of her safe space would be essential to make the experience as stress free as possible for her.
Zena’s new family must be willing to meet in an environment that is familiar to her on at least several occasions before adoption takes place The idea being that a relationship will have started to develop which will make Zena’s move to her new home easier for all of those involved
Zena lives with six dogs currently and with managed introductions she has been successfully integrated into her foster pack! She had the odd grumble at her doggy house mates when she first arrived but she has never displayed any food or resource guarding tendencies She is fed separately as a precaution but joins in excitedly with the other dogs while their meals are prepared and sits nicely waiting her turn when treats are on offer She has shown no interest in playing as yet but does enjoy snuggling up with the other dogs to sleep
A calm, accepting resident dog or dogs will be essential in Zena’s new home to help her continue with the progress she has been making
Zena met cats in Romania without issue and she shows no signs of a prey drive Her Foster family keep goats and she pays no attention when she encounters them! She can therefore live with cats following safe, sensible introductions
Zena also met children in Romania but has yet to meet them since arriving in the UK Due to her more reserved nature we feel she would be suited to a home with older, respectful children (12 years plus) or an adult only home She really appreciates a peaceful, calm environment
Zena is both toilet and crate trained, she uses her crate when her carers are out during the day and also overnight She shows no signs of separation anxiety and has been left for periods of up to 4 hours in the company of the resident dogs
She sleeps well overnight after a quick toilet break in the garden.
Zena has never shown any destructive tendencies within the home or any sign of escape drive in the garden She is always on a lead or longline as the property boundaries are low
Zena accepts a lead and harness, she may occasionally shy away from the lead but is generally happy to have it put on She is very strong, particularly when spooked, and can pull initially Once settled she walks beautifully and is interested in her surroundings.
Zena’s Foster family have taken things very slowly while she settles so she has only ever been walked in quiet, rural areas The plan is to expand her horizons over the coming weeks.
Zena travels well in the car, in a crate, with another dog nearby After a recent trip to the Vet she was happy to jump back into the car of her own accord
Zena’s Foster Mum has the following to say about her :
“Zena definitely needed the suggested time to decompress, we have taken things very slowly with her. She now recognises her name, mostly accepts the lead without shying away, accepts head rubs, lies amongst/against resident dogs but as yet no interest in playing She has never shown interest in jumping or to pursue wildlife smells, foxes and rabbits visit the garden.
She lies quietly with resident dogs whilst we cook and lies quietly under the table whilst we eat She loves her food and accepts equally male and/or female carers She has the most beautiful thick and soft coat.”
