“Blind?” said Barney. “Never noticed.” ❤️
This gorgeous little lad is Barney — 1 year and 3 months old, 7.5kg of pure joy, chaos, cuddles and determination. And while Barney was born blind, he absolutely does not let that stop him living life at full speed.
Barney has quickly mapped out his foster home, zooms around the garden like a pro, LOVES his walks, and has brilliant recall using a clicker and treats. He follows voices, listens beautifully, and uses bells to work out where his people are. Clever boy. 🥹
He’s fully vaccinated, neutered, housetrained, sleeps all night in his own bed, and can be left for short periods. He’d love a home where someone is around most of the day though — he truly thrives with company and reassurance.
Barney would also really enjoy a younger playful dog friend who can match his energy and help him continue building confidence. He adores chasing and playing, although like many youngsters he sometimes misses the “okay mate, I’m done now” signals from other dogs and can get a bit overexcited. When corrected he usually runs away dramatically feeling VERY sorry for himself. 😂

(Seriously. Shoes, socks, random objects… if it’s on the floor Barney WILL find it. Blind? Yes. Unskilled in theft? Absolutely not.)
He enjoys chewing soft toys to destruction and loves a good Kong toy to work on. He walks nicely on lead overall but can sometimes chew the lead or bark at joggers and people with sticks, so he’ll need an adopter willing to continue his training and management.
Our vet confirmed Barney was born blind due to underdeveloped retinas. His eyes are healthy and pain free, but sadly there is no treatment to restore his sight. The important thing? Barney doesn’t know he’s different. He’s happy, affectionate, playful and full of life.
What Barney needs is not pity — just someone willing to see how incredible he is. ❤️
