Description
Skye is my current foster dog, a beautiful 2-year-old short-haired German Shepherd who is looking for a forever home of her own.
Skye was later surrendered by her previous owner through no real fault of her own. It is clear she was very much loved, and making the decision to let her go was not easy but for the best. Since coming into foster care, Skye's sweet nature and loving personality has really shone through.
She is one of those dogs who just wants to be close to her people. Whether it's following you from room to room, leaning into you for affection, or curling up next to you for a cuddle, Skye thrives on human companionship. She absolutely adores attention and has a naturally gentle, submissive temperament. Around the house she is calm, well-mannered, and a pleasure to live with. Skye also knows a few commands such as paw and sit, and loves belly rubs and playing with balls.
Skye gets on well with other dogs when introductions are managed properly, and once she feels comfortable, she is happy to coexist and make friends. She has lived with dogs in her previous home as well as currently in foster without issue.
Skye didn't get the best start in life when it came to training and socialisation. Up until now, she has not done much on lead walking as her previous owner only walked their dogs once a week. As a result, she can be insecure in some situations and can be reactive towards other dogs while on lead. This isn't because she's aggressive; it's more a reflection of her lack of confidence and uncertainty. We've been working closely with a behaviourist, and she has already made really positive progress. Her new family will need to continue this work and be prepared to support her as she continues to grow in confidence.
It's also important to remember that Skye is a German Shepherd. She is intelligent, loyal, and forms strong bonds with her people, but she will need an owner who understands the breed's original purpose as well as the training and exercise that would be required.
What is most endearing about Skye is how much she wants to connect with people. Underneath her insecurities is an incredibly loving dog who simply wants to feel safe, understood, and part of a family. Watching her confidence grow has been a joy, and I know that in the right home and with consistent training she is going to make someone an absolutely wonderful companion.
