Description

Senior chap ‘Basil’ who would be happy with his golden equal or younger model- he’s not fussy - he’s just desperate for someone-please read on © A little bit about me in the welfares words Basils background is so sad. He’s a prime example of abandonment through human frailty & not through any fault of his own. No animal once our responsibility deserves to be moved on no matter how tough life gets they are ours. They should not be returned like a parcel to a shelter where they have no opportunities unless our organisation provides one. This can never be justified especially if the poor dog has experienced loss/rejection previously. As we are told, Basil ‘lived’ with an old lady who then died. The granddaughter took him temporarily before taking him to a shelter with the promise to return for him. Eventually they were asked to collect him & because the fit wasn’t quite right for them he was taken back to the shelter & swapped for another dog & there he’s languished ever since. There are so many things a normal person just like you or I can do to avoid this & there are so many things that happen when we don’t. For now let’s try to give Basil what he’s never had- commitment & a voice. He’s a golden oldie who walks well on a lead testimony to his resolve & loyalty to humans. Someone out there deserves Basil & his unwavering affection & faith in us. He’s a lovable charmer with a penchant for tummy rubs & he’s around 10/11yrs old. He just needs gentle walks, a garden & a corner to call his own. He’dbe happy to curl up on your bed or on a blanket & rest those weary limbs. Basil wants peace from all the noise & to sit in the sun on a fine day by your side while you share an ice cream. It’s not that he’s never had good intent and care from people but not enough to avoid the eyes behind that fence line. He’s has a female doggy friend at the moment that he enjoys the company of & will also happily live as a single pet. He doesn’t want to share his space with cats or male dogs as he hasn’t been taught what was expected of him there & isn’t keen. He naturally prefers the women. There are many people who share his preferences & tastes so we won’t ask him to change athis age though the golden oldies can always surprise us. When someone comes to take a younger dog these dogs are at the back of the cage dreaming about a fire to warm them, hearing a soft voice talking to them rather than to a puppy. When the people walk away and their left there again in their loneliness they’re dreaming about their special person taking them, to care for them in their dotage- kindness, laughter, comfort and above all company. They’re left there month after month and they are so lonely just like elderly people who are on their own. Have you thought about what Basil can give you? Golden oldies do not require the day to day commitment of some dogs. If you’re at work they will curl up and wait for you to come home. If your there all day their company is invaluable, like the hearth in the house. Basil is calm, loving, responsive & worthy of your consideration. He would be suited to anyone really who can give him food and kindness - and this includes older people who prefer medium sized dogs though don’t want the energy of a puppy. We don’t discriminate against individuals who like a standard sized companion. You don’t have to have a toy dog just because you’re in your greater years. Basil has waited too long so please turn things round for him.
