Description
Dulce is in foster care in West Sussex. She is 9 years old (DOB 25/8/2016). She is 52cm long, 43cm high and approx 17kg. She was an ex hunting dog found in kennels in Spain. She is a Griffon mix.
This is from her foster mum:
Dulce has been with me as a foster girl since November. From being almost the classic hunting/pack dog she has become loving and somewhat responsive to a bit of simple training but I feel she will always be a free spirit! She loves being in the garden (6' deer fencing all round) a real outdoorsy type of girl.
Pro's. She now responds to me calling her in from the garden. She is good in the house, doesn't chew things but will occasionally take a dish cloth - she now has her own, altho she doesn't seem to need it for anything particular! She is clean and dry at all times in the house. She loves a ball and got her very own hard ball for ******************. She likes hard things to chew on, e.g. hard Anco dog roots, hard nylabone chews, rag pulls are another favourite.
She sleeps quietly all night in a crate in my bedroom but she doesn't like being left on the odd occasion when I have had to leave her with my own two. She sleeps in a crate during the day, crate doors always open except when I go out then doors are all shut. She travels really well and quietly in the car both in a crate and on a hammock on the back seat, always tethered.
Has never been destructive when I have, on the odd occasion, been shopping. She is never left tethered when I'm not in the car. She is good in cafés and restaurants and will sit quietly under a table. We visited my local butcher last week, another new experience. She was very interested in everything walking thru town, wants to speak to everyone and not bothered by the noise or traffic. She showed mild interest in the butcher's shop, everything is behind glass, but wasn't at all problematic.
She's a good eater, not greedy but seems to enjoy her food. She's on a raw meat diet due to possible ear allergy.
Cons. Dulce has a very high prey drive and I feel she would certainly hunt if not on a lead. For this reason I have the high fences in my garden, because when she sees pheasants/squirrels/rabbits the other side of the fence in the woods she goes completely into hunt mode, oblivious to me calling her in. She would be under or over in an instant if she could.
On walks she pulls, not a good walker by any means but has improved since she arrived with me. She enjoys picking up the p-emails, and replying! A harness and gundog type lead is recommended. And a tether from harness to the collar is recommended too. She hasn't learned to get herself out of the harness, yet. She's too busy pulling ahead or to the side. She's easy to groom, cut nails etc. She's not an easy learner, she's not mastered sit/stay yet!
When Dulce arrived with me she had what we thought was a slight ear problem. After two lots of treatment it was decided to swab her ear and the problem was bigger than we originally thought, it was a Pseudomonas so the decision was made to operate and open up the ear canal. After more antibiotics, drops etc the problem has resolved and she is Pseudomonas clear. We also found that she had a hernia which has been removed and has healed well. All paperwork and result can be seen.
Please message if you are interested with information about your family, ages of everyone in the home, existing pets & work hours. All enquiries will be looked at. We only rehome to England, Wales & Scotland.
Please note: We are looking for a secure garden with fencing or walls to a minimum of 5ft. We also need the dogs to be kept on a lead, long lunge lead or for people to use enclosed fields for off lead exercise as these dogs are scent hounds & have hunting backgrounds. We do not rehome with children under 8 years old.
Full rescue back up is provided.
