I’d like a calm, semi-rural home with a garden Where am I from? Cyprus, now in Hertfordshire About Pepper Our sweet girl Pepper was rescued from a municipal pound where she was living in a cold, dark cage with no outdoor access or even proper daylight. She was one of ten dogs we were able to help, and she absolutely blossomed within just days after being removed from those conditions. Pepper is now in a foster home in Hertfordshire where she has settled in beautifully. Her foster family have loved giving her the time and patience to find her feet, and they’ve watched her personality grow throughout the last few months. She is now ready to find her forever family. Pepper will be nine years old later this year, so she’s one of our more mature dogs looking for a home. It’s hard to know what her life was like before she came into our care, but all she wants now is to be loved. She is sweet natured, gentle, very trusting, and hugely affectionate. Her foster family say that she will quite literally give hugs! She is quiet and calm, happy to settle at home for a few hours on her own, and loves having a nap on the sofa. Pepper also loves going on a nice long walk, especially in the woods where she gets to do lots of sniffing! She generally walks very well on the lead, pulling occasionally if something is exciting or smells interesting, but she does listen to redirection and is very responsive to whoever is walking her. She also travels well in the car. As is quite common in older rescue dogs, Pepper has likely never had toys before, and therefore doesn’t play with them at home - she probably doesn’t really know how. She loves treats though, and is well behaved around food. Although she’s not really learned any tricks or commands since arriving in the UK, she has such a calm, chilled out personality that she doesn’t require lots of mental stimulation or attention. She is just very happy to be comfortable, and in good company. Pepper is really good when meeting other dogs outside on walks, and in Cyprus she shared her kennel with another dog too, but at home she only tolerates canine guests. She would prefer to be the only dog. She also doesn’t show any interest in cats when they come into the garden, but similarly to dogs, she might react differently if sharing space indoors with them. The ideal home for Pepper would be a relaxed home atmosphere based in a semi-rural location, with direct access to a secure garden. She would be a wonderful addition for an older family looking for a laid-back companion to shower with love, as she is so loving and friendly. She has been absolutely no trouble in her foster home, and despite the miserable time spent in the darkness of the municipal kennels before she was rescued, she has never lost her trust in humans. She’s resilient, forgiving, and so full of love.
