Rex is a charming 8-year-old small male dog, currently in foster and looking for a calm, loving adult home.
Rex originally came from Romania and has been in the UK for around four months. He measures approximately 24cm to the shoulder and weighs around 10kg. He is neutered and fully vaccinated.
Rex is a calm, quiet and affectionate boy who enjoys human company. He loves fuss, belly rubs and being brushed and is friendly and welcoming with visitors to the home. He seems particularly comfortable around older people and would be very well suited to someone looking for a quieter canine companion.
He still has a playful side and enjoys playing with people, chasing a ball or toy and entertaining himself. He also loves a good chew but isn’t generally destructive, although electrical wires and similar tempting items should be kept safely out of reach.
Rex is fully housetrained, although when first arriving somewhere unfamiliar he may initially be tempted to mark while he gets his bearings.
He walks extremely well on a regular collar and lead and doesn’t pull. Rex can be wary of unfamiliar dogs when out and may occasionally bark at an excitable dog, but usually chooses simply to ignore other dogs.
Rex currently lives successfully with another dog. However, he can be protective of food and toys, so any potential canine companion would need to be carefully considered and his resources appropriately managed.
Because of this protective behaviour, Rex is looking for an adult-only home. He likes children and is happy to be stroked by them, but doesn’t want to share his toys or other valued items with them, so we feel a home without resident children is the right choice for him.
Rex likes having his own safe space and currently loves his crate, particularly when it has a blanket over it. He will also sometimes choose to settle underneath furniture. He should always be allowed somewhere quiet to retreat to when he wants some time to himself.
He has no separation anxiety and sleeps happily in his crate overnight — although prospective adopters should be warned that this little gentleman can snore rather impressively!
Rex sits politely for his food and toys and while having his lead put on. He travels extremely well in the car in a soft crate and has also behaved beautifully at the groomers, although he wasn’t keen on the dryer.
He isn’t a big barker and loves the peace of a calm household. He isn’t particularly impressed by going for walks in the rain either!
We think Rex could be well suited to someone who works from home or is retired. He needs an understanding adopter who will respect his safe spaces and be sensible around the things he values.
In return, Rex offers plenty of affection, companionship and personality. He’s a lovely little dog who is ready to find the security and stability of his permanent home.
