Description
Licensed Breeder – Licence No: LN/000009254
Cailleach is an incredibly small and bespoke Cairn Terrier keeper located in the deep valleys of Exmoor National Park. We have only one Cairn Terrier, already well known to many within the Cairn community, her name is Acorn.
Here at Cailleach, we work hard to produce Cairn Terriers as they once were: unchanged by time or modern breeding trends. Cailleach Cairn Terriers are bred purposefully, with each litter taking years to plan. We carefully consider the right dog for Acorn, the right environment, the right time of year, and the correct timing for everyone involved in raising the very best litter we can possibly produce.
Our aim at Cailleach is simple: to produce healthy, confident and well-balanced Cairn Terriers.

A True Family Life
At Cailleach there are no kennels. Acorn is a cherished member of the family and is treated as such in every way.
She spends her days with me around our smallholding, at the beach, in town, or enjoying any activity I can bring her along to. In the evenings she relaxes beside me on the sofa or by the fireplace on a premium wicker dog bed.
Interestingly, that bed was originally bought for my previous Cairn, Buster, when I was a boy. He never took to it and it became more of an ornament until Acorn arrived at eight weeks old and immediately claimed it as her own. Thankfully Buster was around long enough to help me raise her into the most wonderful dog I have ever had the privilege to know.

Raising Our Puppies
At Cailleach our puppies are raised exactly as Acorn herself is, as part of the family.
Litters are raised in a state-of-the-art Tekplas whelping pen located in one of our sitting rooms, where we spend most of our time together. Meals are often eaten nearby when the dining table feels like too much effort, and family films are watched in the evenings with the puppies close by.
As the puppies grow and become more adventurous, the pen is opened into the room whenever we are present, and playtime becomes part of our movie nights (with subtitles switched on so we can still follow the film!).
From six weeks old the puppies begin exploring the house and joining us outside on the smallholding, bringing joy and a little mischief wherever they go.

Meet Acorn
Acorn (KC Name: Lindcoly Acorn) is five years old and this is her second litter.
She is an exceptionally well-balanced dog and integrates beautifully with our sheep and chickens on the smallholding. As you will see from the photos, she lives a very active lifestyle and is seldom on a lead.
Acorn loves to play with dogs of all shapes and sizes. She is an excellent mother and an even better companion.
I have had Acorn since she was eight weeks old. She was raised alongside my late Cairn Terrier, Buster, who was the toughest and most adventurous dog I have ever known. He played a huge role in helping me shape Acorn into the wonderful dog she is today.
Whether she is being walked around the local pub by an excited six-year-old, running on the beach, exploring town, relaxing at home, or working around the smallholding, Acorn adapts effortlessly to every situation, a wonderful example of the Cairn Terrier’s remarkable versatility.
Indoors, Acorn is immaculately clean and remarkably calm, even with builders constantly coming and going as we renovate our country house. She always seems to find the perfect place to be, whether that is on your lap, on the sofa, on the bed, or curled up on a sheepskin rug.
Outdoors she is playful and energetic, especially when it comes to fetch, and as the photos show, she is very much a water baby.

The Father
When selecting a stud at Cailleach it is incredibly important that the dog complements Acorn in both size and temperament.
We require, not simply hope, that the stud dog is balanced, well-mannered, confident, and raised as part of a family home.
For this litter we have chosen Jasper (KC Name: Ocean Neptune) from Anthea Fairburn, who shares the values we hold in such high regard here at Cailleach.
Jasper has an excellent coat, a strong head, a good gait, and stands at 12 inches to the shoulder. Most importantly, he is also a wonderful family dog and was everything we needed in a stud for this litter.

The Litter
This mating has been carefully considered to be something very special for Cailleach, as I will be keeping one puppy from this mating of the mother and father to join our family.
Both the mother and father have been tested under the BVA Eye Scheme and are clear of CMO. At Cailleach we go further than standard testing.
Acorn has been genetically tested through a Wisdom Panel screening for over 214 genetic conditions, passing clear for all conditions tested. She also shows high genetic variability for the breed, which is an important factor in producing healthy puppies.
All health certificates can be provided upon request.
Our puppies are raised with exceptional care, nurturing confident, inquisitive personalities and giving them the very best possible start in life.
Puppies will be ready for their new homes at 8 weeks old and will leave:
• Health checked
• Kennel Club registered
• Microchipped
• With a Classic Kong
• With a blanket scented with the litter
• With a bag of Nature’s Menu puppy food
