Currently my foster, Gabe shares his home happily with other dogs and would be more than comfortable living with canine companions. When he first arrived, he was understandably very nervous and unsure of the world (we were told he may have had rocks thrown at him in the past). Everything was new and a little scary.
But what a transformation he’s made.
From not wanting to leave his safe space, Gabe has blossomed into a gentle, affectionate soul. He loves nothing more than nudging his me for extra fuss or giving soft little licks to ask for attention. He takes treats gently from your hand, enjoys his food, and is starting to discover the joy of toys.
Mornings are Gabe’s favourite - he gets so excited for his walks that he “sings” with anticipation! That same enthusiasm comes out when he spots rabbits or squirrels (and he’s very good at spotting them!). Aside from his adorable singing moments, Gabe is a calm and quiet presence in the home, you’ll often forget he’s even there.
He’s fully house trained and is growing in confidence on the lead every day.
Because Gabe can be sensitive to sudden movements and loud noises, he would be best suited to a home with older children who can give him the understanding and space he needs.
Gabe may be shy at first and will need a patient, kind family willing to let him come out of his shell at his own pace. He can spook easily, but the lovely thing about Gabe is how quickly he bounces back once he feels safe.
With time, patience, and love, Gabe will reward his forever family with unwavering loyalty and the sweetest companionship. He truly has a heart of gold - he’s just waiting for the right people to share it with.
